12C IRIS 2 - DAB?
Discussion
Howdoo,
I'm looking for some guidance from those in the know (Ive still not decided whether to go the paint protection route yet or not!!) - I've knot long had my car and as part of the buying deal, I had the IRIS 2 head unit installed into my car. The IRIS 2 looks like it has the DAB tuner option but I don't have an aerial (usually on the windscreen?) so thus the DAB tuner doesn't work.
Can an aerial be retro fitted? If they can, does anyone have a picture or know of the connector type that I need for the back of the head unit?
As part of an optional upgrade that came out last year, I was quoted £10k for the cost of the DAB and rear camera upgrade...I politely passed on that upgrade option! A new windscreen was apparently required but I find that hard to believe - my Transporter van had a nice Pioneer unit installed c/w DAB for a few hundred pounds - it didn't have DAB before!
Also, as yet I'm without a manual for the IRIS 2 so not a clue as to what some of the buttons/functions are or how they work - is there an electronic version kicking about to anyones knowledge?
Ta in advance

Ok, the DAB Arial is in the screen. Silly question what year is your car? On the later models the DAB arial was already in the screen and they just added a new box in the car for about £1800. Honest opinion..don't bother. The sound system even though I had the upgrade isn't worth it. I just plug my phone in with my music on it or switch to a radio station via the net. I have the reversing camera. Biggest error they made was having a portrait screen instead of landscape. Hence the picture is crap as the camera is set so low in the rear of the car.

Hi Geoff,My car is a 2011 so pre DAB aerial being fitted into the windscreen...
Yeah, I read something previously about the reverse camera being a bit naff due to the orientation so wasn't too bothered about getting it fitted or not, like the IRIS 2, a nice to have come resale time but certainly not at those sort of prices anyway!
The DAB would be a nice to have as I've gotten used to it over the past few years in other cars but hey ho, no real big issue, just a bit of a pain that the unit automatically searches for DAB stations as soon as you hit the radio button but that is easily cancelled and hit the FM button instead. I thought it would have been an easy fix in just buying an aerial kit for it though - just not sure what the fitting looks like although of all the pics I've seen of the DAB aerial kits all the aerials connectors look pretty generic. I've not even been on my hands and knees yet to have a look behind the screen so not sure if I can even see a connector there...something to do today

As far as I know you cannot retro fit a DAB arial. It was incorporated on the later one. I know what you are saying my daily driver has it and I much prefer it but is it worth it in the Mclaren at that price. Probably not. I connect my phone and listen to Internet radio or just from my iTunes. It is something I think Mclaren could have done better. But then again you don't buy one of these to worry about whether or not it has DAB.

IRIS manual shows a 4th touchscreen button for DAB where the star is in the bottom right hand corner. Not sure if you are in a sub menu or you can call up the DAB bit as all I can remember is the dealer hitting the star button to save my favourite stations. Will have a play tomorrow but probably end up messing mine up as well
Done some checking. Apparently all 650's come with a DAB radio. However and I quote " infuriatingly clumsy and the infotainment system not simple to use". I would suggest you give your dealer a call. But as I have said before I cannot be arsed with mine. I just plug my phone in and listen to my music off iTunes.
