I can see Chris Evans being interested in this.

I hope whoever buys it actually drives it properly and doesn't just stick it away in a collection. Though with those kind of values it's unlikely. A chap like Chris Evans would be an appropriate 2nd owner for it. I like to think if I could afford such a vehicle I would take a similar approach to ownership as RA has done.

Never thought I would read that! He said quite recently it's a 'keeper'.

No because it wasn't an insurance write-off, it was repaired (for £910k hehe)

TT9 on here has recently proven that F1 purchase/ownership does not always involve "Garage Queen" status.

Should the RA F1 stay here in Blighty I hope the new owner has the same opinion.

Atkinson: "I'm not a collector. I don't like the top-cupboard syndrome that causes so many good cars to evaporate. It depresses me that they are hidden away like investment art, or gold ingots in a Swiss vault.
"My F1 is only 17-years-old, but it's already a classic in the tradition of the Type 59 Bugatti or 2.9 Alfa. It has become part of my life."

Maybe and no.

Short term there is a risk that the classic car market will pop. Definitely a bubble as prices have soared in the past two years. But just because previous bubbles have burst does not mean it will this time (would be nice to be able to see into the future). If the market suffers a big correction then current prices of F1s would likely be affected.

Long term I would think the F1 will continue to rise as so few were made and it is so different from today's hypercars (NA, manual, very light, no electronics, etc).

The F1 is the last of the non electric supercars. The GTO of the 90s.

What is happening today is the difference between affordable and exotic cars is getting bigger. There's the < 50K market going 20K. And > 200K cars quickly rising to double pricing.

Check LP400S prices.

Let's be honest if this bubble does burst all classic cars will be effect even the McClaren f1 and the Ferrari 250 gto.

If prices continue to rise at the same rate this summer the average car enthusiast will leave the classic car market until it cools down.

The average car enthusiast left the market some time ago.

The F1 and GTO are in a different league, toys for the uber rich who can afford them on a whim in any economic situation. They may slow or dip, but rarity guarantees their long term value.
