McLaren F1 bought by Brit
Discussion
Over the weekend, a Brit - who I am sure many will know on here - has bought himself a red McLaren F1. Possibly the ex-Andretti model (#28?)
It was revealed on Twitter and by DK Engineering, who I imagine acquired it for the new buyer. https://twitter.com/DK_Engineering/status/45532965...
Lovely to have another F1 in the UK, should certainly increase the chances of one being spotted on British roads.
Wonder what it went for? Road-going F1s are modern day 250 GTOs and their values are only going one way at the moment. Imagine it could have been north of £4m.
Personally not a fan of red as a colour for an F1, although I wouldn't turn one down!

The Zonda is for sale with DK. They certainly have a stellar stocklist at the moment

wow, what a PX Gavin.. sure there was a slight cash adjustment for the upgrade but what an appreciating asset and sure you will drive it as it should be driven
not many places to go after having a Zonda but just perfect, good to see a proper car lover.
Whats the history of this F1, has it been out the country?

looks like it was in the US from the plates.
Not sure I have ever seen a red one before. There isn't a bad colour!
Must be the US car I think. There are 2 red cars I have read about, one in the US and the other in Singapore but the Singapore car as far as I am aware has probably has hardly ever been used (still on original Goodyear tyres when I last saw it 2 years ago) and I don't think it would have been easily road registered there (plus the not inconsiderable matter of a heap of vehicle tax to be paid...). Not sure I have ever seen a red one before. There isn't a bad colour!
Have to say I don't think red suits the F1 very well but I'm sure MSO will be more than happy to repaint the car for TT9 if he so chooses

From what I've seen on twitter that red 275 also belonged to Gavin - this is probably wrong.http://www.dkeng.co.uk/ferrari-sales/2/Blue_Chip_a...
Yes, this F1 is chassis 028, originally built for Michael Andretti as part of his contracted compensation package for his abbreviated stint with the McLaren Formula One team in 1993. Obviously when the contract was signed expectations of his performance in the sport were higher than they proved to be.
028 was the fourth road car completed in 1995 and Andretti took delivery but could not bring the car home to the USA due to our strict importation laws. I am told he kept the car in the UK for approximately one year then storage and insurance costs inclined him to sell.
The car went to a Japanese buyer and would remain there until 2003. Then it was purchased by an American with the methods to import one having been resolved a few years prior. It's first US owner was located near San Francisco and kept the car until late 2005 when it was sold to a buyer closer to Newport Beach. It stayed with him for just a couple of years before joining the collection of its previous owner, who was the man who owns the McLaren Automotive franchise near San Francisco.
I'm not going to get too specific with the price, but a number eclipsing 8-figures in US dollars is what this car was worth at the time of the sale. It is an original car with very unique history, not too many miles, and certainly well cared for throughout its life. I think it was certainly well bought given the upward trend on F1 prices that seemingly has no bounds. Hope the new owner gets all the enjoyment he wants with it.

While I wasn't exactly pleased to learn of an F1 leaving our shores, I have been fortunate to see this car a couple of times. Here's me with the car in McLaren's tent at Pebble Beach just this past August:
What I had through my viewfinder:
Another angle:
Later on some foolish person gave me the keys...
And the view everyone wants to have.
