Bit of a dumb-ass Sunday question, but can anyone remember a Mclaren being displayed in a shop window in London in the 90's?
I'm inking it it was Harrods, She Who Must Be Obeyed says it was further along the street.
Does anyone have the definitive answer?...

I thought it was a McLaren shop, as in a kind of McLaren main dealer.

I remember about 10 years ago there was an F1 in a shop window along Park Lane.

I can't remember if it was a McLaren shop.Maybe it had something to do with the BMW showroom.

Harrods did sponsor an F1 in some GT racing so maybe you're right?

They had a showroom on the corner of South Street and Park Lane, in what is now Harrods Estates office.

...so now Lotus have the same thing on Regent Street, wedged amongst their grossly overpriced shirts, hats and other tat. They could usefully start with a range of new cars before being distracted into a range of new clothing.

Just to add - there was more recently a very fine looking Lexus LFA in a window on Regent St - next door to the bullet-proof BMWs.

I had a quick lookie on Google Maps, as I could never remember quite where it was sited, I dropped the streetview bloke on Park Lane, but instead of being on the road, he was inside the BMW showroom...I guess its been around for ages and like the middle aged man I am, I'm simply not upto speed with the latest gimmicks, still, thought it was quite cool....cars look CG, but I assume it means they can update with new models when they are released....tried it on the Aston showroom...didnt work :-(

As an aside, around 1996 i used to get the train into town just to go and have a look at this mclaren and many years later i got to sit in the exact one and have a play with the knobs and switches when it came up for sale at the RM auction in 2008.

It used to be the McLaren dealership where they displayed Chassis #65. Later, it became Harrods Estates, which I am pretty sure displayed an F1 too in Harrods Green. But I can't find any pictures of that particular car.

Yes it was on Park Lane and you can see Quentin outside it here

Interestingly at around the 15:20 min mark, they interviewed James Munroe who has road car F1 and a long tail race car with full support team - all paid for by the £3m he embezzled from his employers.

Top tip - if you plan on ripping your employer off, best not go on national TV and brag about your fantasy life so your colleagues shop you in and you end up doing time

Yes it was a the top of park lane, was on a rotating platform, think it was only for display as I assume they were all sold before launch.

Crikey blimey....just Googled him and saw he also fraudulently pocketed 40K from a company local to me! yikes Mind you, he got 6 years in the clink for his troubles. Wonder what he's up to now!?

Last time that name appeared on here he was selling his story and Pheads thought it might be a good idea. The negative feedback meant it never happened.

As for the F1 showroom, I tried several times to get a sit, but the very pretty woman was immune to my somewhat lacking charms. Fun times..

No turntable as per comment above, it was quite a small showroom and half was given over to T'AG HiFi stuff

Far from it. By the time the F1 came into production the global economy had slowed down and McLaren struggled to find buyers. McLaren eventually closed production at 99 cars (excluding prototypes) and almost a third of them were racing cars which was not part of the original plan.

Weird to consider that at one stage you could have got a discount.
