Just how good is the used warranty?

I'd agree with Dave on this one, in my experience; it's marginal at best, I've seen nothing to tell me otherwise, including direct conversations with all relevant parties.
Didn't mean to suggest they were driven by McLaren, I thought I read on here/elsewhere that McLaren management meet/engage with the group owners/organisers.Definitely been a run in or two over the years between McLaren and Thorney.

Spring and shock is £1.6 k I have kept everything on the car full Mclaren not independent the independents were also more expensive than the dealer to replace my front discs.
I haven't needed to replace discs but I do remember discussing prices and I found the same - the Indy's offered an aftermarket brand which were more than McLaren would charge, although I think they're supposed to last longer. The fact remains though that £1.6k is considerably more than £100 and that Indy's can often repair where McLaren will replace entire parts - and that does lead to significant price differences. And hence many of us find that the warranty no longer justifies it's cost.

They were looking to be replacing springs on the 'supersport' model dampers rather than complete unit; as you say, they were around £4.5k per corner previously.
If its under the mac warranty, its still full replacement, although my wishbone issues would have been wear and tare.
I have been self warranting my 675 for 2 years now with only the issues above which cost me around £1200 per side, but the good folks at Glasgow paid for the other side as goodwill.
Warranty is around £5400 a year, so a fair saving.
I’ve just renewed my 4 year old 600lt warranty for less than what it would of cost at an Independent specialist.. there’s no claim limit on the McLaren extended warranty ( Underwritten by Car Care Plan) and as I understand it it’s New for Old just like most premium House content policies ( insurance/ warranty being much the same thing) so if for example a shock seal decided to give up my car will receive a factory assembled new unit which for me is far more benificial than having someone in a workshop poking it trying to get the old seal out to replace it .The cost of the Super Series cars is a bit more eye watering so I fully understand why folk might chose to self warrant and service by an independent if logistically viable
