Does this count as a classic, for this group?

Bought on a recent visit to Italy and fingers crossed arrives by the end of the week!

Its a 1965 Lamborghini 1R MEC. It has been in constant use by the same chap for some time. Pretty original, has the fuel cap, front lights and the steering wheel boss, etc. Missing the toolbox cover, guage cover (MEC didn't have a speedo, etc) and front badge.

I have a picture somewhere of a Lambo tractor we saw on Dartmoor a few years back.

Looked to be used regularly

Seen loads of Porsche tractors, but this was the only Lambo I have seen to date.

100%. - Its a Lambo and not a Audi or GTR

Out of interest, what do these bad boys cost? Are they still used?

I agree – definitely a classic for this group. A real Lamborghini! Without the income from Lamborghini’s tractor manufacturing empire Lamborghini cars would never have existed – we wouldn’t have the Miura, the Countach, the Diablo or any of the modern stuff.

Some small scale farmers in Italy are still using the 1960’s tractors but most of them are owned by collectors now. I doubt many people are still using the 1950’s ones as production numbers were a lot lower and they’ve become too valuable now. Ferruccio sold off the tractor manufacturing part of his business in the early 1970’s and it’s now part of the SDF group. So you can still buy a brand new modern Lamborghini tractor if you want one. They are very popular in Italy.

Prices vary a lot for pre 1970 Lambo tractors. I don’t know what sclayto2 paid for this one, but some of the very rare early models can fetch up to £50K or more for if they’ve been well restored. This was a pretty average restoration but still made good money: https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/23425/lot/32/

Parts supply can be very difficult and there doesn’t appear to be any manufacturer support for anything made while Ferruccio was still in charge. I’m working on a few 1950's and 1960's models at the moment. I often end up manufacturing new parts from scratch rather than trying to source them. There are a some people now who re-manufacture lights, badges, exhausts, etc for the restoration market and everything that’s visibly missing in the photos of this 1R can be sourced or made. It’s the stuff that’s not visibly missing/broken that causes the problems! eek

@sclayto2 Congratulations on the purchase – they are great fun! Please PM me if you need any help sourcing parts, I may well be able to assist.

First rat look Lamborghini i've seen, would be criminal to restore it,taken all those years to get this sort of patina.

That is lovely but wouldn't want to take it out in the rain or get it muddy.

Well the newer SAME ones are massive. The older ones are much smaller. This makes them appealing to vinyards as they fit between the vines...

As for prices, it varies. I looked at one that was in better overall condition, but was missing some of those hard to find parts: priced at around euro 5k.

A quick look on Kijiji, here, shows up the odd older one. And that the price was fair.

In that case, here's mine!

Minor story is that I found it online while it was still undergoing restoration in Italy. I contacted the guy and he finished it, shipped it over and here we are! It was about half the price of buying an identical one in the UK, so a bit of a bargain. I only really bought it for fun and because its quirky - I don't have a field, for example, to drive it around. But, it goes, starts first time and occasionally I drive it around in circles on the driveway just to keep it running.

Good Lad, Thank God for the British eccentricities, It's about the only thing left keeping England afloat.

Here it is being delivered, about 18mths ago. This guy had driven up through Italy across on the ferry and straight to mine in Surrey. All he had was my little tractor and.......a left hand drive Mercedes hearse that he was delivering to someone in the UK. Most bizarre. Had to stop the traffic to allow him to reverse in. He couldn't speak a word of English - other than espresso - so I duly obliged, handed him the cash (I'd taken a leap of faith and sent a 2000 euro deposit electronically) and he drove off. What was rather nice was that about 6 weeks later the original registration document turned up in the post that the owner had found. So I also have the 1965 ministry of transport in Treviso document.

I've seen the same model for sale in the UK for as much as £20,000 and one went in auction for £35,000 in the US a couple of years ago. Me? 11,000 Euros :-)

I think it's only fitting that we have some photos of the great man with his various Tratori....

And a very brief newsreel clip of him driving one....

Very good purchase - you got a bargain for a restored tractor.

If you're interested I'd be happy to guide you though getting a registration number for it from the DVLA if you send me a PM. I've road registered a few now. They're fun to drive to the pub on nice summer days bandit

sclayto2, I did reply by email to your PM, hopefully you got it.

Was this from garage961?

I'm just looking for one now. If you fancy swapping your 1r for Land Rover 80 for a week or two let me know... https://www.instagram.com/p/B4-LLnTg1m2/?utm_sourc...

Honestly, it sounds like the same guy.

We communicated through hand gestures, a liitle bit of Google Translate and some very broken Italian on my side.

The only thing we both understood was him asking for an Espresso...
