Miura eyelashes

Form or function ?
They disappeared on the vented disked SV .
Did they just disguise huge holes originally or did the huge holes provide ventilation to the front wheel well in the early solid disked cars ?
With Gandini s other mid engines incarnations which come later ..Ferrari GT 4 ( Bertone ) , Stratos , Urraco he did air scoops at the lateral aspects of the front radiator ducting air discretely to the front disks .
Miura was his ( and his team at the time ) first attempt at “Posteriore “ engine .

This car had a wider lower front grill and more under air vents ...improved lower air flow through the front ....was it to the rad only or rad + brakes ?

No real function I believe, but perhaps the indentation/gap allows the pop up lights the room to raise, am sure an owner will comment on this.
What I can say unequivocally is that the eyelashes are such a strong and recognisable feature that they "make" the car, in my view and are the reason, having the money to hand, I would buy a P400 or S over the SV, but then I also prefer the wheel arches on the narrower cars.

Form only I believe. My car is in the final throes (please God!!) of being restored in Bologna, by the same people who built it and have now retired to set up independently. Valentino Balboni is supervising it all and he's the closest I know to the institutional memory for the Miura. He told me they were purely decorative, and in fact my Miura S lacked the lower lashes when I acquired it I have heard that they didn't fit them to the SV because they'd run out of the bits, but they may be making that up. I've had the car converted to SV spec while it's been there and Valentino has rebadged it to SV; I didn't ask him to, but you don#t argue with this guy... This is widened rear track (handling), improved cooling and a split sump, but I've retained the eyelashes. Yes I know the purists will freak out, but really, the car is for me not the next person so STFU.

You'd be in good company because Ferruccio Lamborghini's own red Miura SV had the lashes..
