Jalpa values, any ideas?
Discussion
Here are three at about forty grand in Europe http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/list/26/jalpa/
The recent Silverstone auction Jalpa went for just over £40k including premium. According to the catalogue "Buyers should be aware that this lot has formed part of a large private collection and has been stood for some time, as such some remedial works may be required." I would have budgeted at least £10k for this!
I guess in crude terms the premium is similar to a dealer margin, so a private sale should be somewhere in between the price without the premium (which is what the seller gets, unless the auction house also charges them a fee) and the price including the premium (which is what the buyer pays).

I always thought that this was a £20k car, until recently.
But then we seem to be in the same kind of bubble as in the late 1980s.
I bought my Jalpa in 1987 for £20k
Two years later Tom Hartley offered me £60k
Since then I've always insured it for £20k
Now they seem to be fetching £40k.
But if you look at what people, are asking for Urraco's, and, personally, I prefer the Jalpa...........

I agree the Urracos values seem to be vastly different from a few years ago. Nice to see Jalpas values rise though as it may encourage more people to spend on their maintenance. I wonder how many RHD examples there are remaining in the UK these days? But then we seem to be in the same kind of bubble as in the late 1980s.

This is a really nice solid car and the remedial work needed is nothing like £10k. It needed a full service/check of all hoses etc.,.., repair to drivers seat and probably the most expensive bit a new exhaust. If you wanted to make it really nice cosmetically the wheels needed refurbishing. It had recently passed an MOT prior to to the auction with no advisories and has pretty much every MOT prior to being laid up to confirm the mileage etc.,..I guess in crude terms the premium is similar to a dealer margin, so a private sale should be somewhere in between the price without the premium (which is what the seller gets, unless the auction house also charges them a fee) and the price including the premium (which is what the buyer pays).
