Aventador roadster
Discussion
Making my first forays into Lamborghini ownership and coming here via the 458 classifieds.
Current 650s spider and DB9 GT Volante convertible owner looking to add another roadster to the mix amongst the other coupes. Having looked for a 458 and realising a well specced 458 isn't really far off one of my poster cars the Aventador.
Simple question, does the Aventador roadster roof leak? In reality I will be using it mostly with the roof up unless at the peak of summer but the 650s roof leaks occasionally and it's a real pain. I would rather go for a coupe if the roof is tempremental.
I don't have the budget for an SV and I really dislike the Aventador S front bumper so I'm looking for an LP700 roadster. I've read the advice of buy the latest car possible, does this apply to roadsters as well? I think my budget will get me a 2013/14 car.
Every car I've looked up has a lift button on the dash, however my research tell me this was an option. Do some cars have the button without the lift mechanicals in place? They all also seem to have a reverse camera but this was an option also?

The LP700 (Aventador) and LP740 (Aventador S) are completely different cars to drive. I would suggest you try both rather than base it on a how a front bumper looks otherwise you may be very very disapointed with your decision. Lift was standard. Reverse cam was an option. Not heard of any roof leaks on either cars.
I had an Adventador S roadster for a year alongside an 812 GTS and a McLaren 675 LT Spyder amongst others
Roof is well engineered - it’s a faff to get on and off (part of its unique appeal in a way), got caught in a shower once :-). But doesn’t leak, rattle, fairly solid
I never loved the car in terms of its driving dynamics and experience - so make sure you drive one. It’s all about theatre and event - which it does in spades.
I found it needs my constant attention to drive - it’s so wide, so low, and the single clutch gearbox whilst better in the S - needs to be worked.
As your adding to your collection it makes perfect sense but understand what it does and says on the tin. I sold mine only because the dealer bought it back for same money a year later.
Happy to answer any other questions as it relates to comparing to other things.

Totally agree with the above comments, late 2019 I had the funds for either 2014/15 AV Roadster, or the newer Av 'S' Coupe (S Roadster was out of budget at the time), I drove the early roadster and I was very disappointed (it did not help the car was not a good one).
After driving a 1k mile 2017 mint S coupe variant, I found it much better than the early car in every way, especially the handling and balance of the car around bends etc, the 4 wheel steer does make a difference and the car felt to me, much more agile, better put together and confidence inspiring than the older car.
There was enough difference that I ended up with the newer S coupe, even though I wanted the open top variant.
I did 17k miles in the coupe below (now sold), and have now completed nearly 5k miles in my newer S Roadster.
They are very different to drive than the much easier to live with huracan though, and the running/servicing costs are now becoming a bit silly.
Apparently the warranty extension costs for the Aventador have had a price increase from the already expensive 6.6k per year, to closer to 10k per year!
I will be updating with a thread on this shortly with the confirmed figures.
Great cars in their own way, but they do need 20 mins driving to warm everything up though, and the fuel tank is too small for the way it burns through it, which is a genuine pain if you are out all day / on a trip with others, as you will need to stop more frequently than any other car.
But if you want a mid engine V12 roadster, there is not much to chose from!

Thanks for the feedback, the main reasons for purchase are the engine and the drama.
I won’t really be using it for spirited drives or trackdays, I have more sensible and smaller cars like a 991 GT3 and R8 V10.
This must be the only V12 mid engined car in my budget. I think an S coupe would be in budget but I think for my use a roadster on a sunny day would be more memorable than an S coupe.
Also there seems to be a handful of roadsters for sale and even fewer S models. The prices are holding very strong, a friend bought his 700-4 roadster 3 years ago with 9k miles for 180k, it’s probably worth the same with double mileage.
If anyone knows of cars for sale let me know, I’m keen to avoid GVE as they have a couple of cars that fit the bill.

Off topic, but for the 650 roof leak, make sure the rubber strip across the centre of the roof is fitted properly. On my first one, it wasn't - it was all squashed into the plastic channel, when it should "hook over" - that's what caused mine to leak occasionally. Once I put the strip in properly it was fine.

The guys at V engineering sorted this out for me. I haven't taken it out in the rain for a long time but I'm sure it's fixed as it was only a tiny drip.Babw said:
What’s the independent service network like for looking after these cars?
I’ve spotted SRB and Supercar room. Anything further north/west (I’m based in West Wales).
Perhaps speak to RE Engineering, even Pangbourne send their cars there sometimes but I'm not sure if they do V12s thoughI’ve spotted SRB and Supercar room. Anything further north/west (I’m based in West Wales).

Lambo official warranty is now £10k per year to renew - bloody joke!
In the 70s and 80s the super car was the rare preserve of the Uber rich. They then became fairly common, when I see recent costs I think they are becoming more suited to very rich people.I think I could afford to buy one but I could not justify 10k per yr on a warranty and then normal costs on top of that plus depreciation.
To be honest I preferred it when you saw one super car per year if lucky and it was an amazing sight.
The dealer is not far from me, and the high value cars they sell are very thoroughly checked by a specialist who I have met in person.
They have a good reputation, and I would buy from them if the deal was right.
I would just look really closely at what their warranty covers, and what the individual claim limits are.

Thanks Lambo666, can you divulge who the specialist is?
One thing peculiar I noticed with this car is the fact it appears to have an Aventador SV dash without the silver circular trim around the speedo, I wonder as it's a 2015 car it was one of the last LP700 so the factory started putting the later dash in?

I’ve also just realised the Revuelto orders should start to be delivered right about now….
So a fair few more Aventadors coming to the market I’m hoping.
(To the member that reached out offering their S coupe, thank you but I’m really holding out for a roadster.)
I would be very surprised if anyone taking delivery of a Revuelto will be px an LP700 against it. An SVJ or an Ulitimae possibly. So a fair few more Aventadors coming to the market I’m hoping.

Tyler Dawson (from Precision Vehicles in Kent) was the guy Imperials used (and probably still use) to inspect their high end stock before retailing them.
I nearly used them to S.O.R my black Aventador S shown in the pic above, but I ended up keeping it another year and sold it privately for slightly more.
The 3 or 4 people that I know of, who are allocated an early Revuelto are adding them to their current car collection without part exchanging anything!
Quite a different level of wealth required stumping up 520 - 580k on a car in this climate.
SVJ prices seem way too expensive with a staggering 50-100k spread of what a dealer will pay you for one, or what one will sell at auction, compared to what some dealers have them advertised for!

I know similar McLaren owners who bought a new 12C, kept it alongside later variants and either sold for a P1/Senna.
I don’t know what the percentage is but I bet there’s a few more out there.
