I'm thinking about getting an Aventador. I can't run to an SV so looking at an S I think. Budget I suppose is £180 to £250k. What would you recommend? are there any desirable options and should I get a convertable?

I did this 2 years ago. I tried an SV and it felt like a bh to drive. Yes it has presence and are holding value well but its not a drivers car. The SVJ drives better but not sure about the way it looks and it was a bit out of my reach budget wise and even more so now.

I then drove the S - bloody brilliant. The shape of the car without the body kits etc are just pure elegance and for me it's the best looking out of the bunch but its also the best drive out of the bunch with the rear wheel steering it points and goes round bends amazingly well.

There are also less S available than both the SVJ and SV - so for me it's the S all day.

I suggest you drive all three though as everyone has an opinion. I sold mine recently back to the dealer I bought it from 2 years ago for £30k more than I paid but then I immediately bought another S which was newer had a much higher spec and a different colour from the same dealer as within a week I was having major withdrawal symptoms biggrin

My previous car didnt have any carbon at all neither inside or out and although it looked good in black (all the black plastic was hidden well inside and out) the new one in a lighter colour has carbon everywhere inside and out including the engine bay and is a class apart. Original owner spec'd around £75k of carbon on the car! I would go for the highest spec car you can find - the ones with carbon etc are slightly higher priced but well worth it.

Make sure the car has a warranty as if these go wrong it's fking expensive. A warranty extension is around £6k a year but worth it. All cars at approved dealers come with a year but I have negotiated more on my cars.

I didnt buy the convertible as the roof is fidly - you have to take it off and store it in the frunk - its a proper pain in the arse.

£180k wont get you an S in today's climate. A decent one would start at around £235k.

A lof of cars have missed service history so make sure all services have been carried out by a main dealer. Most with specialists have missed history hence why they are not an approved used car. Tom Hartley has a lovely black one with carbon galore but it's missed its all important first service!

You can still warranty a car with missed service by having a main dealer carry out a "Big service" for circa £6k and then the warranty for an additional £6k but it's a big price to pay and ends up costing as much as buying a "proper" car from a main dealer!

Just do it!

Have you ever tried removing the roof on the convertible and then trying to store it and put it back on? You may quickly change your mind! I did!!

I went SV coupe. And I absolutely love it.
The SVJ is more £s and, to me is too much like the Anniversary Countach, trying a bit to hard.
I haven’t driven an S.

really appreciate all of your comments. However I put a deposit down on an F12 yesterday! Jayems review of the S put me off a little, plus I didn't feel at the moment like spending that extra to get the Aventador. I'm sure I will come back to it next time!

Ive just googled the name you took that put you off buying the Aventador - Id never heard of him before LOL.

The F12 is a very different car not really comparable except that both are a V12. Park them next to each other and there is only one winner ;-)

Enjoy the F12 though - a cracking car in its own right.

I've driven the SV and S extensively, it would be the S for me every time. The addition of 4WS makes a huge difference to the car, being able to place it on the road much more effectively and it is a much better road car in terms of damping and ride comfort too.

F12 is lovely too but a completely different experience. I wouldn't let a Youtube video put you off a purchase. Any Aventador really only makes sense when you live and drive with it for a longer period of time. A short road test won't do anything to teach you about the car as it needs quite a bit of understanding.
