Diablo Tyres

Just for general information I managed to get hold of some tyres for my Diablo if anyone is having the same trouble tracking some down as I did . Fronts Pirelli P-Zero 235/35/ZR18 £219.10 each , rears Pirelli P-Zero 335/30/ZR18 £368.30 each .

Mmm , tricky , understand you might want to keep all original but is it not possible to fit 18" , i think Rocco,s SV got 18 rear 17 on the front ? . I know a guy who had full set of 18" Monterey wheels with Pirelli,s fitted half worn and probably negotiate a price of around 3k . I,ll keep a look out for 17" anyhow

First gen Diablo running the old pepper pots as they are know by, are 16 front 17 rear. My local tyre shop said they could get the rear 335s in 17 P Zero ok, must ask them on the price tomorrow.

Called in to a tyre shop not to far from me today, was quoted £250 for the 335-35-17 (rears) in the standard P-Zeros too. Though that was really good! So have them ordered even though I don't need them yet.

Seems to some confusion over sizing 91 diablos are 17 front and rear, if you get some rears from your dealer let us know and ill have a set f+r too.

Early Diablo front are definitely 17's:

early diablo's were 17" front and 17" rear
SV from 1996 had 18" rear
1998 onwards car with ABS and larger Brembo brakes run 18" front and rear

only one I'm a little unsure about is the SE - there was an extra cost option for Large Brembo brakes with this in 1993 - but I believe this was with 17" wheels also.

The 335x35 ZR18 from mytyres.co.uk are now £340 each - but 2 things I noted are:
tyres upto 2 years old may still be sold as new (means you may have only 2-3 years before you change them again.
the speed rating is Y - which is 186mph. Whilst you are unlikely to achieve this, how does your insurance stand on this ? I'm quite confused over speed ratings now - can anyone explain if Y rated tyres on a car which has a maximum speed of >186mph are ok ?

My tyres have actually put their prices up now for these , they are now £443.40 each , there are cheaper ones available now at £340 but these are less suited for wet conditions and are poorer on fuel economy . They do state that they consider tyres up to 2 years old as new , however these particular tyres were not available anywhere over the past 12 months at least so I should think they are about as new as you can get . As for the speed rating I think that,s as higher rating these new tyres can get , if you can find these tyres with a higher speed rating I,d be surprised ( pleasantly surprised ) as for insurance , if you are doing over 186 mph and the tyre blowout I,m pretty sure your insurance will be void ( as it would if you,d be doing over 70 mph )

Yeah your 100% correct, I was totally wrong with my judgement, my apologises, my NSX ran 16 front 17 rear and I possibly got mixed up.

However as per my previous reply, I purchased my NEW rears for £250 each,

How often are you guys changing tyres then ?

assuming they don't wear out first of course! and that prompts another question - what can I expect in terms of tyre wear from my SV ?

1994 VT workshop manual says change very 4 years - my judgement would say every 5 years.

Suppose that depends a lot on mileage and how you drive , saying that perishable goods do perish over time , direct sunlight and temperature changes being the worst enemy , the manual may recommend 4 years as a guide only ,that is a pretty rough guide I might add . If you don,t load the tyres up too much keep the car away from prolonged frost and direct sunlight I,d be happy to drive on tyres double the the recommended guide time . Of course regular checks permitting .

Sudesh , just looking at your new rears ! Are they both for the drivers side of the car ? I asked because mine are the same tread pattern but I had it in my head that the tread should be mirror imaged , in other words when fitted the tread on both left and right rear should point in the same direction . Or am I being thick ?

I think you right looking at the pics and looking at my car they both tyres seem to be off side tyres
when mounting these tyres on to the rims the tyre fitter will see ESTERNO AUSSEN EXTERIEUR OUTER and they can only be fitted one way

Ok thanks Sudesh , I have the same tyres but car in workshop so can,t remember how they are fitted ,just seemed a bit odd to me though , as the wheels rotated due to the tread patterns being opposite directions how or if , this would effect handling in the wet for instance , my new fronts are the same , so on one wheel the tread is pointing forward on the other wheel it,s pointing backwards . It probably don,t matter a jot , just assumed they would be linear .
