Hi Ted,

Just a thought (following on from rather 'heated' threads at the moment).

Given that a locked thread immediately continued in another new thread, and the reasonable desire not to ban people from the site, how about a 'cooling off' period of an hour or so which can be applied to offensive posters, with the definition of 'offensive' meaning 'to PetrolTed'?

Might lead to more reasoned arguments instead of name calling...

Good idea that. Also imagine how vitriolic the miscreant would be after stewing for a whole hour

I like the idea, but there's nothing to stop a chap (or chap-ette I suppose) from creating a new profile and banging on, neatly avoiding the hour wait. Same way the locked tread was side stepped.

I'm sure there's ways and means of getting around this, but the effort involved probably isn't worth it. Only my 2p worth though, and I trust you don't take my comments too harshly.

I think Ted can trace by IP address rather than profile. For one hour, it's hardly worth someone changing their ISP.

I like the idea of an hour's vitriolic composition though!

I think Ted banned Benno for his anti TVR propaganda (though I thought it was better than a lotta comments posted!!) for 24hrs. That seems to work quite well, I'd sure hate to not access this site for a day...
