Ted

Why not surface member stats in a competitive table. Stuff like number of messages posted, topics started and so on. Since we're a competirive lot here it could drive more traffic which, I guess, is a good thing...

Might be fun to get a leaderboard of the longest threads too so we can re-live the sagas of "why did you leave/stay in england", "ugliest cars", and "engine rebuild" etc.

Cheers
Matt.

I like the top threads idea

The reason I don't post the other stats is it can make the forums cliquey. I don't want newbies to be intimidated by people who have posted 20,000 times or for people to try to get their post count up by posting contentless messages.

Fair point about newbies. Although I wasn't suggesting that the numbers go up in the Gassing area itself -- you could tuck them away somewhere -- the point about contentless messages is well-taken. I've seen such forums and boy can they be dull!

No problem - there are plenty of other ways to intimidate the newbies..

Bloody right - some people are scary enough without all that nonsense. Take Mel - he's got a girl's name, but he sounds really scary on the phone.

Mind you though, men with girl's names are mostly scary people - take John Wayne and the famous wrestler "Big Daddy".

Cheeky Bar Steward, mind you I've grown use to it by now with people phoning the factory and asking for "Melaine " or "Melissa" etc and I tend not to be scarry for newbies, do I ???

Spot on Ted. The amount of junk on certain other sites where members compete for huge post numbers is a sickening waste of bandwidth! Please keep this a tasteful forum in a sea of noise

(What are those jap 4WD things called? Something to do with a cartoon dog? It'll come to me...)
