Automatic page refresh option

Not sure if this has been asked before (quick search tells me it hasn't) but is it possible to please have an automated page refresh option button added. Something similar to what is available on BBC for cricket match commentary which automatically refreshes the page every 30 or 60 seconds would be great.

For threads like the Official GPs where there are very regular postings, it would be nice to have the option to have the page refresh automatically without having to keep my finger hovering over the F5 key for the duration of the race.

You wouldn't want it to refresh whilst you were typing a reply though, or you'd lose it.

Incidentally, Opera has a feature to auto-refresh pages. But you'd run into the above problem with it.

This is a possibility as the refresh would only apply to the post page and not to any of the other pages. We would have to look into the ability to make sure we know you have read a current page before moving to the next page (which maybe a little tricky) but we will certainly add it on to our dev list for future consideration.

In the meantime if you do go down the option of Opera refresh, can you let us know how it goes as it would be useful to see if refresh actually is the answer.

Yeah, but pressing F5 (or ctrl-R, or pressing the reload icon) requires some manual effort. Clearly that's way too much in this day and age.

Chipper, aren't you? My original suggestion was that it be an optional feature so that it wouldn't be a PITA if you didn't want it to be.

I, for one, would welcome this option and have expressed my gratitude for the helpful responses. Not sure why you're being quite so arsey about this.

Absolutely. Because adding

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="10">

to the page header to refresh the page every 10 seconds is such a HUGE amount of work, isn't it?

(To be honest that would be very quick and dirty and rather inefficient. You'd probably want to use AJAX to do it properly)
