Block view of certain members

On another forum that I go on, it has an option to block certain users, so for example if there was a thread and somebody wanted to block me, on clicking they would not see any of my replies in any other threads. This does not effect the blocked user, and has no impact other than the person who has blocked them will not see any further replied or threads from said user.

I would be interesting in that kind of feature, as on some threads where the OP has started a genuinely interesting topic, the same usual idiot crowd come in with spelling and grammar pedantry which ends up padding out the thread and making it more difficult to extract useful information from.

It would also be a useful "yoofspeak" filter for people that can't be arsed to see the rare posts from the other side of the scale where they don't even make an effort to be literate .

Obviously each to their own, I can't bring myself to get all sexually excited over a typo generally, and it is not my place or in my interest to campaign to put a stop to it, but the feature to passively block users of choice would be ideal in my eyes.

Would this be something that the forum admins could easily add as a feature?

This is something we have discussed before on here. I can't find the topic with a quick search, but the gist was that it would create a little extra processing power to each visit to the forums that slows it down a little to do a cross check of the block list.

Also it wouldn't block any quoted messages from them either (which isn't necessarily an issue).

We are currently putting in some all singing and dancing servers to boost the speed of the forums (that hopefully people have noticed in the last few weeks). This is still ongoing, and when finished, we can revisit the ideas that have been put on hold due to speed issues.

Cheers - on the other forum it does not block quoted either but it is a fair compromise.

Good luck with the remainder of the upgrades - look forward to potentially seeing the feature if you choose to add it

If you search on 'ignore' in this forum then you'll find its been discussed in a spirited manner previously!
