Which is something I really don't understand considering how people are happy to talk about their home audio systems

It's because car audio in this country tends to consist of nothing but fitting the largest sub possible into the back of your mum's 1 litre hatchback and as such it has attracted quite a stigma.

Sensible audio questions have been asked in the past and received sensible answers, but you just have to be careful with the wording.
