Frontpage design

I was reading the front page today and it struck me that the design is pretty dated now.

I've been working on this for a few hours tonight and wondered if you'd like to use some element from it.

There's lots to do, for example rather than the long menus on the right i've opted for afilter option for the news articles, roadtests, etc. which would bring up a facebox (or similar) screen where you can chose which options you want to see on the front page, that would call an ajax method ot update the main page. Simple to implement and pretty snazzy .

Now there's lots of free room on the design to fill up with ads and stuff I guess, there's stuff that i've not put on (PH shop section, just got a bit bored tbh). And there's other screen that would need to be redesigned to match the style (read, everywhere).

What do you think? (sorry for the disjointed post, telly on in the background and can't consentrate).

We've identified most of the issues you highlighted already and do have a redesign in the works at the moment, but I will point Pete at it when he returns and see if there is anything extra we can include.
