Ted, why not some chat. Or, at least a chat channel on Undernet or similar. That should be nice (costs nothing). What do you think ?

Never seen a motoring chat channel with anyone on it. I'd be interested in anyone's ideas on this, but basic chat rooms are out.

Why not put a small one on the website, obviously it'll probably need to be able to handle the number of people who are likely to use it. Keep the GS, but have a wee chat room too!! Could be good!!!

Because basic chat is only of value to people on the site at that instant. All the other content has longevity.

tvraddict, I agree, why not to make a try with some crappy shareware, just to see how it goes ?

Ted that's right, but I think that at peak contact times can be useful. Ok, if you don't agree, never mind.

I have to say I concur with Ted's reticence towards this idea - I mean how the hell would I get any work done at all??

Apart from which, most of us who are at work would find ourselves unable to use chat because our company firewalls block it..

Your point being???
Thats exactly what I mean, sometimes, there are things that are just never after the moment!!! If you've got a chat room, you get the banter etc at the present time, it's also in real-time! Keep the GS! Get rid of the GS and I'll phone my good mate Tony Soprano! Most people after help or on a rant will post in the GS, but people will just generally chat in the chat room!!!! Why don't you have a trial period of say a month, with a small, basic piece of dog turd chat facility, maybe in HTML! After the month, if it works, make it look like a PH job, if not scrap it! Just a thought!!

Banter posted in the Gassing Station can be enjoyed by anyone at any time. People are still reading threads on here that are ancient. I see no value in providing a transient medium.

Once upon a time I thought a chat room would be good, but I have to agree with Ted, that keeping a log of discussions provides more entertainment for other readers. Also a brilliant source of information. The decoupling of action-reaction makes for good cross-work/timezone communication...
