Ted,

I feel that something needs to be done about these people who come on the forum just to cause trouble and annoy people! (I am not blaming you in any way for these people who come on here) I know that, until they do something, as was seen yesterday, that is really offensive, banning/barring/kicking/ejecting them would be a little, unfair! But there has to be a way of stopping them firing off in the first place. My opinion of Muda, is that he was a spoilt little boy used to getting his own way, and everything he asked for (ie, Bentley, One car, not the company).
I know this is a hard one to sort! Firm but fair kinda approach.
Not really a question, just food for thought!

Cheers
Stuart!

Stuart,

It is sometimes hard knowing where to draw the line, one persons humour is offensive to others and Ted wants the site to remain 'censor free' as far as possible which generally works well.

The schoolboy element will often go away if others do not react and they are ignored. In the case of Muda he was being personally offensive and was likely to continue as he enjoyed the reaction. The thread he started on 'Teds new site' was deleted Sat night and Ted finished him off yesterday.

The problem is finding a way of stopping the really abusive postings whilst not blocking the odd 'damn I need to let off steam' post. I'm not an expert on the internet but I know that its not easy to block by address as ISPs use different ones each time you connect and blocking certain words (ie netnanny) won't neccessarily pick up the abusive kids.

My suggestion is to ignore them / delete their post and hopefully they will soon get fed up.

Cheers,
JSG.

Don

I agree, JSG. Its getting them *bored* that's the key to getting rid of them. If no one rises to the bair they'll soon tire of it and go and try to write a virus or something....

Muda is just a schoolkid. Further measures will be put in place in the long run to assist in deleting posts quicker, but the best reaction is to just ignore characters like that in the meantime.

(Thanks for your assistance JSG!)

Ted,

It could be possible to write some kind of job that runs against a list of keywords, each time a match is made it can nuke the trend / user.

It's perhaps a bit anal, but I've written these things before to catch fraudulent applications (eg address keywords, remote host IP addresses etc).

Oh, I really should stop working and get a life.... taxi!!

I think the best combination is going to be moderators (already in place and I don't think anyone's noticed/complained ) and a technical solution along the lines of what you're talking about (but I won't reveal the mechanics of it!). I'd rather spend my time writing useful code of course!
