Oddly enough, when I go to my gym or tennis club, I am not greeted by being drenched with a bucket of cold water! Arriving at the Pistonheads site (on the odd occasion I have the firewall set to allow ad's) I have my entire screen high-jacked, by a massive E-Bay advert. If you are prepared to piss on your readers in order to raise revenue to pay for the site, then you must be on drugs! It negates any goodwill I may have had for your efforts and puts you in the same category as Porn sites, for intrusive advertising. What's next Ted, those annoying windows that spawn new one's as soon as you close it? In the long run, your revenue will suffer as we'll all employ pop-up blockers to stop you intruding on our screen space. Rethink your ad strategy, NOW!

Easy tiger!

With all due respect, your posting record does not suggest that you are a large user of the forums... and IIRC the pop up appears ONCE, when you first log onto the site.

Bear in mind, that like the majority of us, the man has a mortgage to pay. If you want to contribute to it directly, I'm sure he'll remove the pop up...

...unless of course you can suggest how else he can bring in revenue...? Criticism is far easier to take if it's a little more constructive... IMHO.

No but I'm sure you aren't getting in for free.

Read this - www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=47468&f=24&h=0

Now change the record, you're wearing that one out now.

Doglord, I understand the irriation factor needs to be balanced with the need to pay for the running of the site. (see the FAQ). That's why I cap the number of popup ads per session.

If you wish to draw an analogy with a sports club or gym, then I'll simply remind you that you pay to attend those - PH is free to you.

Easy Tiger. You do pay your Gym and Tennis Club a healthy membership fee and may even pay every time you use some of the facilities. PH does not cost you anything. Ted can give us this great facility because of the money paid by the advertisers, you can close the window if need be with a click of the mouse, yet you feel the need to pour not water but vitriol on what Ted has achieved with this site and make frankly insulting remarks without much in the way of a cause. I take it you don't throw the telly out of the window when the commercials come on...

There really is no need to take the line you have, chill out, it is not that big a deal.

If I went to the gym, used all the facilities for free, and was handed a leaflet on my way out, with an advert for health supplements, I would probably NOT go to the manager and accuse him of being a profiteering, intrusive little shit for interfering with my right to be there.

If I did, I would feel he would be entitled to tell me to shut the up, stop being a pompous, self righteous freeloader, and piss off to another gym where they tolerate ignorant twats who expect something for nothing.

Catch my drift?

He can't spell either then as it's "Bloemfontein" which is in South Africa, Kalgoorlie btw is in Australia. Must be a really big landowner then.
