Probably time for a spruce up of the home page again soon. One of the things that concerns me is that the news drops of the page pretty quickly so anyone who hasn't visited for a few days has to dig quite deep to get recent news.

Are there any other sites out there that PHers visit which offer a good solution to this?

I have a 1024x768 screen resolution (quite common setting on 17" monitors) and a favourites listing always open on the left. Since you put the Shop column on the homepage the classifieds column has dissapeared off the right of the screen and needs a slide right to see it.

Might be missed by newbies.

PLUS

Idea time again, when I send an email message to someone via PH after it has been sent I have no option to go back to where I came from, I have to go back to the home page then forums. Can a fix be looked at?

I would say the same as Podie:

Monday 3rd in a bar,
item 1
item 2

Sunday 2nd in a bar,
...
...

When you have say 5 days worth, put a link to another page with another say 10 days worth....

Mmm... food for thought. I was really after some examples of other sites that manage the problem well.

www.ipodlounge.com just lists it
www.techimo.com has a nifty design that would work here
www.sysopt.com has a similar design
www.itv-f1.com does it in a smart style but loses news quickly off the front page
www.ipodlounge.com has a decent idea.

www.britishrally.co.uk has the best idea I think.

Ergh......just tried that. I said I use a 17" monitor not a 20"

I don't like sitting on top of mine to see it though and since I spend a long time in front of it, it never causes any eye strain this way.

Do you use binoculars to see yours then?

Edited to say, oh you work in IT, that explains it.
Your desk probably looks like this anyway, so you probably never look at the same screen for more than 10secs.

I use 1600x1200 on the laptop at home... and a more "normal" 1400x1050 at work...

By the way.. only have one monitor at work.. it's all connected via switch boxes :geek:
