Do we want them? I'm reflecting upon it and it's one of the things that makes other bulletin boards quite tedious IMHO. Perhaps I shouldn't be encouraging their use here? Thoughts please fellow PistonHeads.

I personally don't mind them if it's a bit of plain old text only.

As long as they don't get out of hand, can't see the problem.

More irritating is people using silly nicknames and not giving their real identity in their profile. If you are not prepared to stand up and be counted then shut the f*ck up I say.

do I get counted in that one too?? I only miss off my Sirname as you never actually know who's on the internet, whilst Pistonheads memebers tend to be well adjusted and upstanding members of the community, we have seen an influx of morons at times so I'd rather remain on first name terms only...

I was thinking more of the likes of THE DEATH, elmuchukyu etc. You know, the ones with no profile details AT ALL, no email etc, who some on an plaster drivel all over the site.

Rather than worry about innocuous signatures, why not worry about validating profiles? I think that to be able to post on the site an email address in the profile should be mandatory, and an email should be sent to the address given and required to be returned from that address before posting is allowed. That would at least deter outbreaks of "I'll get all me Cornish mates to flame you".

Yeah.. its the likes of them that I wouldn't want my full details exposed to (that sounds rude !?) as I'd probably collect a nice Key-ing or Smashed window on the Tiv if they happened to find out who I was..

That doesn't deter knobs like them though as they just set up another email account. Measures are in place to deal with them when the arrive in future though.

Know what you mean. I took my personal website details out of my profile for that reason.

Getting back to Ted question, if its just a name at the end of the message it does nothing to offend. I put the HTML link to my car in there to demonstrate what possibly SHOULD NOT be allowed.

I know what Ted is getting at, I was on a website yesterday (PCG Forum) where geeks try to outdo each other with the fanciest or cleverest sig. Half the time reading through threads you couldn'y make out what was the argument and what was some irrelevant witticism inserted as a sig. Bloody annoying, especially when you are trying to make sense of some complex legal arguments.

Kepp the sigs, but limit them. Just leave my HTML alone cos I like my name in blue!

Should slow 'em down though. Good to see you're on the case anyway!

When did the "Report Abuse" link appear by the way, and does everyone have it?

Everyone has it - it's just a fancy way of sending me an email if things are getting out of hand. A lot of people are good enough to email me when things do go a bit pear shaped, this should just make it easier.

On that note, is there anyone out there who could assist with the moderating? I'm just talking about banning the knobs when I'm not around nothing more than that really.

I dont find short signatures irritating usually...though noticed that in the karting thread, where pablo was posting a lot, that reading "I can save it if Im not looking through my back window" (or similar) a little tedious..!

would happily moderate (banning nobs anyway)...though am possibly one of Phils 'no profile' people. Im afraid I very much value my privacy after some unpleasant incidents a few years back.... but Ted knows my real identity I spose, so should be trustworthy enough!

I saw Pablos sig for the first time today and chuckled! They do tend to wear you down after a while though.

Yes but what can they do to you? Silly question perhaps, but they have to go through Ted to email you, and even if you illustrate your current car(s) it's a million to one against them ever finding you. Can anyone except the police trace your address from your numberplate?

I know there are plenty of raving psychopaths in this world, but I still don't get it. Scathing replies thoroughly welcome on this one!!

I have a lot of time at the moment so I would be sort of happy to moderate in some way, though I have never met you !! I would though (if you were to grant me some access) not wish to ban users but more kill insulting and abusive threads. Let me know what you think Ted.

With regards to sigs on PC I don`t really see the point (at work fine, but not at home ?!?!)

Also, can anyone explain what that If I can see it I can save it thing is all about ? And the 4 TLPS tied together innit one....
