Ted

I've got fed up with having to remember passwords for all the Web sites I visit so I've started using a password generator which produces 12-character passwords. But PH only allows a MAXIMUM of eight characters -- why, and can it be changed?

TIA

I guess I was curious because it's rare to have a max limit -- usually a minimum...

Just as an aside, I understand that the ideal password length is either 7 or 14 characters, and should include a mixture of upper and lower case, alphabetical and numerical characters and special characters, eg?@£$%....

It's not much good now we all know it! You'll have to think of another easily remembered one now Caro.

Depends on your definition of ideal. An ideal password also has requirements for you to be able to remember it, and 14 characters of alphanum/puctuation fails that test...

You don't have to remember every password if you use a password generator, just one -- but that one password never leaves your PC while each one you leave littered around the Web is both robust and unique.
