Mark. As I'm sure you can understand, running a site like this costs money - and quite a bit of it too.

We have the luxury of viewing for free, so where does that money come from?

I know Ted is a generous chap, but even he doesn't have bottomless pockets with which to give us our daily Pistonheads 'hit'.

So, adverts are a necessary evil so that the site can continue to exist.

If that doesn't placate you, I'm sure a charitable donation to Ted's Pistonheads running fund will help keep it ad. free

No problems with dipping my hands in my pockets Stig.
I have no issues with the ads within the pages at all, it's jst that pop-ups really annoy me

I'm sure Ted experimented with this before but did some magical wizardry that only allowed the darn thing to come up once?

Hi .Mark can't say I'm over enthused, but I got a day job to pay my mortgage thankfully.

But there is one thing for sure, I'd rather have pop ups on pistonheads than no pistonheads!

Or as Stig muted do we subscribe and have no pop ups.

Perhaps a poll Ted?

It should pop 'under' once per user and is currently only set up to run for five days (it will pay a quarter of the price of the new server that I'm currently having installed )

I'm still investigating the option of an enchanced membership package and one of the benefits of such a package would be a popup free PistonHeads.

OK Ted, one thing though, it just popped us 5 sessions on my last log in! Bit of a bug methinks.

likewise from both my PCs I have had it every time I log in. The VX one was more annoying, but this a close second. The members arear reports 25,000 members (very impressive) Even if only 10% were regulars a £5 p.a subscrption would buy you a lovely server (exspecially if you bought it from me - sorry, couldn't resist). Maybe a poll is required, to which people would prefer.

While I recognise that advertising is a necessary evil, if we are to continue visiting the site for free. Pop ups which expand to take over the entire screen (such as the current E-bay abomination) are intrusive, unwelcome and off-putting. In the long run they merely ensure that readers will use all the mobile code control and pop-up blocking possible!

What eBay pop-up?

Not seen it, on any of the PC's I use! Is it because I'm automatically logged in, or becuase my first stop is GS, rather than the homepage?

I get it every time i goto the pistonheads home page. I don't mind the pop ups but it's a bit annoying when they come up full screen whilst your trying to look like your doing some work!

It seems to come and go.... Sometimes I get the popup from the Homepage, then when I move to the Gassing Station and a couple of other places...

Although just right now none have appeared..

It's not really a problem, bit of an annoyance, but doesn't deter me from visiting

Although it may also have something to do with the PC I'm using - doesn't really allow cookies, plus won't 'remember me' from visit to visit.. Nothing I can do about that, ahem, as it's a work PC...

All in all though keep up the good work. I have my own smaller site and find it difficult to keep on top of the meagre work load involved in that!
