It might be of interest to a petrol head (as it was to me) as it has a garage with workbench, power and lighting plus another lock-up if required.

That's a no then is it? Just a thought....you could have a section for motoring related "property" - lockups, workshops, houses with more than the average amount of car facilities?

AdrianR

P.S. Anyone want to sell one in or near Leatherhead in Surrey? I need more space for kiddy's toys without giving up mine. Need 3+ beds and double garage or space to build one.

A section for property seems like a good idea to me. I spent ages looking for a garage/lock-up last year in which to built a kit car. In the end I just gave up.

Hover over the 'news' button at the top of this page. Classifieds is at the bottom of the drop down memory.
If thats not the problem are you running an ad blocker?

Okay, now I'm really confused. There isn't a "news" button anywhere to be seen on this page... Don't think I've got an ad-blocker (whatever that may be )

Next to the members button, in the grey bar across the screen, right under the banner advert at the top.

I've been thinking about it and I don't want to include it in the current format of classifieds. I need to have a think about how to structure some of these things... A jobs section would also be of use to the community. It's just a question of how to manage this without losing the focus of the site.

and there's me looking all through the classifieds for this Hoose section. I suppose one good thing came of it though, I've discoverd a 400SE lives in the Street next to my mate
Need to go on the lookout.

Whats this vDealer thing then Ted?

Ok, I've added a 'Non-Motoring' section to the classifieds which you can put houses, jobs, computers in. I'll tweak it in time depending how it's used.

What's vDealer? It's a system that allows dealers an account to add classified adverts to the site for a flat monthly fee rather than pay per advert. It also allows a stock list to be pumped into their site with minimal changes to their site design.

Ta. I agree it should be "moderated" to keep the content relevant - I'd also say 'jobs' should be motoring related jobs etc.

That's not really my train of thought. PH is a community and I could provide some useful non-motoring services to that community.

I just struggle with the dilemma of whether to provide those services or concentrate 100% on the core business.

I'd say that putting an extra section in the classifieds was a good idea. It's hardly a big dilution of content, and you people don't have to look there if they don't want to.

I personally think the problem with this sort of thing isn't with the "other" content but when there becomes so much "other" content that people come for that rather then the core, at that point the site is too diluted, I think PH isn't in danger of getting to that point yet.

Ted, The Classifieds Section (IMO) is a good section, Clear, easy to use, to the point, and no faffing. Adverts down the RH side are clear and unobtrusive.

One Question, do you charge to use the Classifieds?
If Yes
If Not, Why?

Edited to Add, This Tweaking you mention, is that to bring the section into line with the rest of the site? (GUI etc).

Oh, and I had a laugh the other day. My mate was talking about finding a site with a huge list of car related stuff, URLs etc. I asked him what it was....OilyPages.com

He can't of noticed the PistonHeads.com but at the bottom of the page

There's no charge for private advertisers in the classifieds. As for the tweaking, you'll have to wait and see
