I just want to be the first to post a thread about the new scrolly-button things at the top of the pages! I miss the scrolling news though...
Well done Ted (especially for the 'Fleet' bit)

Any technical reason why we can't have the "pop up" mates window back?. It was always useful to see who was logged in without having to change page.

If technically possible would anyone else other than Bodo and myself like to see this feature reinstalled?

Any chance of the menus behaving like menus - i.e. appearing on a mouse-down instead of just a hover?

Maybe its just me, but I hate things flashing up and down faster than Mungo just because I moved my mouse across the screen...

I also keep clicking on the main button to get the menu up - but that does the wrong thing.

Standards, pah.

I mean I move the mouse to (for example) 'What's New', and in the style of menu systems everywhere, click to get the menu... but a) the menu appears on a hover, not a click, and b) the click does a default action, not poping up a menu.

Not a big deal, just not a particularly standard behaviour.

Fairly standard behaviour for DHTML menus in web pages.

Hmm. After the late 80's and early 90's were spent in GUI wars, the Windows desktop/GUI has become the de facto default. Then the web came along, and all standards went out the window (intended...) again. I would still go by the 'rule of least surprise', i.e. if I interact with it, it does pretty much what I would expect.

Some great counterexamples: www.websitesthatsuck.com
Some pretty good usability guidelines: www.alertbox.com

Top job. 2 comments;

1) Under "What's New" the "Mark all as Read" is slighlty bigger than the rest, so looks a bit odd.

2) The mates list extends beyond the bottom of the window (poxy office PC with crap res), so I have to scroll down... not quite as user friendly as the old pop-up. Also, IMHO putting the names in bold text makes the information of who is online harder to assimilate than the older lightening flash.

Just my 2p. No offence intended.

You must have more mates than me

I'll make some more tweaks later in the week.
