Open images in new tab?

I've had a look around and can't find anything relevant - is there a way to make URLs in a post open in a new tab/window? Something like target="blank"?

Sorry, title should say "links", not "images".

You can right-click or tap and hold on mobile and choose open in new tab (for both images and links actually). Lots of browsers used to let you choose to always open links in a new tab or window.

Thanks, I'm aware of that - I'm just wondering if I can make a link in one of my own posts automatically open in a new tab by using something like target="_blank" in the [url=...] code The reason for this is that I'd like to make it easy for the reader to compare an edited image with a reference image.

Ah I get it. From what I can see, no, although you include that in the URL and it does fire a new tab, it seems to 500 error rather than follow the URL. Quote this to see the syntax.

Ah, thanks - now I can see that a standard https link does open in a new tab by default:

...so I need to link to the reference image source rather than uploading it using the native uploader.

Edit: Hmm - didn't work - seems that images open in the same tab? Strange.

Another edit: I tried with the syntax url=https://image address?target="blank"- the image opens in a new tab if I click from the post preview page, but not when clicking on the link in the actual post. Hmm.
