Ted,

Was browsing through classifieds before and I got a pop-up advert! Surely this can't be right?

This is the ONLY site I've looked at today (other than our intranet homepage) and was a little surprised when it appeared.

It also reared it's ugly head yesterday, but I had another browser open, so figured it was from that. It was definately a car related ad... and if it happens again I'll get a screen grab.

Does Scudera Systems mean anything to you?

It's popped up again whilst looking through the classified ads...

Banner ad at the top is a Kerridges one...

Yep, Scudera are advertising with us. The popup ad should only appear if you hover over their banner advert and it closes again when you move away from it. It's a temporary thing whilst they get their website sorted out.

See it here:

Hmm... odd, as it is DEFINATELY NOT at the top of the screen (as a banner ad) on the page I've seen it on!

The popup "flickers" (appears then disappears so quickly you only see the box outline) about twice before becoming available. I also then get a little box in my taskbar (Win 2000).

Hmm... odd. Probably the setup of the PC's at this end - or maybe the popup ad is preloading?

Ok, might rethink that one. Would be interested to know whether it's working for other people.

I got that as well - it flicked off before I could see what it was.

I thought it was our security spying on me.

I'll keep an eye on it, see if it happens again and get screen grabs where possible.

I've cleared out the cache and cookies and IE6 temporary internet files...

I'll let you know if it happens again.

I noticed it on the Scuderia advert, just above where it said "hover over the picture for more info".
I noticed that when I hovered over the picture, more info appeared as a pop-up.

Right, sussed it.

Whenever the Scudera banner comes up at the top of the screen... the popup ad "flickers" (see prior descrption) in the centre of my screen.

Mouseover to produce banner works fine though... seems the popup ad is pre-loading.

Not been able to get in to do what it did earlier... so that's probably something to do with our IT department being naff.

Hmmm - not hacked the code, but mesa thinks I know why it's popping and dissapearing.

When it pops up, if it pops up underneath the mouse, the moveover event gets lost and then it dissapears, but then the mouse is back over the banner, and so the next micro move of the mouse will create the mouseover event, which pops up, which then loses focus, which then makes it dissapear etc. etc.

PT - add some code so that it only closes the window if the mouse is not over the banner, or the popup window....
