At the risk of getting banned for asking the question of the PH team, is the win on Wednesday competition a genuine prize offer for active members, or is it just a vehicle to get as many new people signed up as possible to boost membership numbers and maybe advertising revenue?

If it's the former why is there not a qualifying period of both membership length and posting activity to make sure these prizes don't go to somebody who signs up purely for the competition never to be heard of again, or members making their 1st/2nd post in 150 months or so.

Do PH do any checks to see if these new posters are in fact multiple log ins to increase their chances of winning?

Or maybe you already apply some criteria for entries that we don't know about, like not including new or infrequent posters in the draw?

PS, I don't have a vested interest because I don't enter but don't feel the current system recognises those that contribute to the forum on a regular basis.

Or is it just me and nobody else cares, if so I will shut up wink

Can only answer this question for you, ALL dual profiles (new or old) that are found will be routinely disabled. New members profile are scanned many time a day.

Thanks for the quick response Big Al, and for not banning me.....yet smile

Out of interest do the numbers of new members increase over and above the normal rate when these competitions are running?

Remember that 'active' members can take many forms - they don't necessarily have to be signed up and posting on the forums.
- those that just read the forums.
- consumers of the editorial content.
- users of the classifieds section.

Many of these users may have been around for some time. I don't see why they shouldn't be allowed to register and enter the competition.

In all honesty I'd say no, some days there are many new members others just a few , and not necessarily around these competitions.

I like you don't bother to enter as I doubt a mod would win! frown

Looks like the mods have answered your question for me smile

Jeremy's point is spot on. If we get any of Jeremy's examples to finally join in and contribute then its a win win for everyone.

Thanks!
