Just been asked to sign up to new rules... 99.9% of NP&E threads and posts will surely need deleting smile

1) Do not post material that the PistonHeads Team would find offensive, annoying or upsetting, including personal information (including Facebook/Twitter/Linked-In etc.) If in doubt, do not post it, or check in Website Feedback.

2) Amateur sleuthing for whatever reason is not allowed.

4) Do not be deliberately contrary, or argumentative for the sake of it. [THE killer rule biggrin]

5) Directly threatening someone with violence will result in an instant ban.

6) Do not post links, gifs or images which contain violent, racist or sexist material or material which could be seen as offensive or unlawful in any way.

7) Do not post any NSFW (Not Safe For Work) images, links, gifs, or clips on any thread.

8) Do not post any copyright-protected material without permission - including streaming sports content. If in doubt, don't post it.

10) Do not copy and paste articles from newspapers or news sites. This is a breach of their copyright and any such threads will be deleted.

I tried to reply to your post - I then got directed to sign and agree to the new terms.

My dear fellow with the greatest of respect for your view expressed in your first post I think this thread should be in website feedback wink

Those rules were all in place before today.

Maybe they're actually planning on enforcing them nowadays.

What defines 'amateur sleuthing'?

Presumably proper detectives will be exempt.

It was intended as a bit of fun amongst the Brexit and Trump threads... Not as "feedback" (which it isn't). It's only really relevant in NP&E.

How would I know what material is offensive, annoying or upsetting to the PistonHeads Team?

I didn't get a chance to read the new one which flashed up so I looked at the normal links to T&C, I can't find some of those clauses in there!?

OK, Hold that... It's not in the T&C it's in 'posting rules'!

you want to click on "posting rules" next to "terms and conditions" at the bottom of the screen

You may want to check that they're factually correct before imposing them on folks.

11. Do not copy and paste articles from newspapers or news sites. This is a breach of their copyright and any such threads will be deleted.

Incorrect - we can copy and paste articles from any news site legally. As long as it's for criticism, review or reporting current events which is what NP&E is all about.

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/exceptions-to-copyrigh... See section Criticism, review and reporting current events

Not so sure about that...

Old rules: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cac...

New rules: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/rules.asp

Quite a big difference. Interestingly the first rule has changed from "a reasonable person" to "the PistonHeads Team"

I didn't bother to read the rules, just ticked the box. I was in the middle of an argument so had to get back in quickly to wind somebody up.

Think that should be ok.

As we have a number of coppers on here, would they be exempt from amateur sleuthing? After all they do it for a living so are hardly amateur. smile

Thus my question above. I think I know what a reasonable person would find offensive, annoying or upsetting but I don't know if the PH Team are reasonable people.

I do find it strange that they've actually named folks in there e.g. James and Jack. Does that mean that if one of them leave or are no longer in the same position we're going to all have to sign up to new rules when they change the name.

If a jobs worth doing once, it's worth doing twice springs to mind.

Now about the HTTPS issue or the multiple other issues we've told you about which you've done nothing about ?
