It's obvious really, no high-tech kit, rather a shoestring thing.

I confess that the copy of the old rules that I'd printed out and pinned above my desk seem to have disappeared. But the term seemed sufficiently vague to warrant further investigation, and we now know what it means - though I think it should be made clearer.Imagine my surprise upon entering my dusty, cramped office above a dry cleaners, hanging up my trenchcoat and trilby hat, collapsing into my old but comfortable leather chair, clearing three weeks' worth of paperwork off my keyboard, logging into PH, and being faced with an "amateur sleuthing" cease and desist order!

I didn't mention it before, as it wasn't entirely relevant to the story, but sitting in my office waiting for me to return was the implausibly attractive wife of a powerful film producer, needing my help... I lit a cigar and listened to her story.

I would suggest the rule is enforced dependent on what you do with the results of your sleuthing.
If you intend to congratulate and promote a person's previously unheard of good deeds then your sleuthing will not raise comment or discussion within the mods' area.
However, should you deride someone for, say, having flashing lights on their family car, then you will fall foul of the rules and be chastised for said sleuthing infringement. Even if the flashing light family car owner publicly promotes their actions on a popular video hosting website or similar then sleuthing will still have occurred.

That's doxxing not sleuthing. Sluething is when you find stuff about people. Doxxing is when you publish it.And no, you're not allowed to do it if it's your profession, either.
