(ANSWERED)How does the swear filter work on the forums?

When I first started posting on here and saw that some posts had certain words censored out, I tried do do this manually myself to show that I was swearing but without actually displaying the 'naughty 'word. I then got my hand slapped for 'trying to circumvent the swear filter'
After a bit of confusion I realised that I didn't need to do that as the filter comes on automatically when certain words are typed....or does it? Sometimes (it seems completely random) I can type a swear word and 'horror of horrors' when I review my post to check for spelling/syntax etc, the swear word is still there and I have to hurriedly edit my post. I had this this morning when I tried to post something that by necessity had to have a censored swear word in it. No matter what word I used (and I know a few), the automatic censor wouldn't kick in and I had to delete my post.
Advice please?

I think that you'll find that the Shorpe thing is an unusual touch of humour from the PH techies.
It could be rectified in the same way that is censored whereas spikey isn't!

I always read sthorpe when I surely know that's not a place, and they mean Shorpe

weirdly Shorpe gets a capital and sthorpe doesn't, even if I use one
