Invalid certificates from the **** ad network

I get intermittent warnings about invalid security certificates from one of the st advert slingers on PH.
Todays was from AOL something : sorry techies, but I can't tell you which advert, because I closed the popup, and can't reproduce it.

I will soon be joining the crowd and installing an ad blocker, something I only do for badly behaved sites.
Sorry PH, I know you are ad funded, but if you don't change your festering turd of an advert service and get a "content provider" that does some minimal quality control, you will end up driving all of your members to ad blocking, which can't be what you want!

I, like a lot of PH members, have a background in IT, and I already only browse PH on a throwaway device : there's no way I'd let your ad service near an important PC without several layers of condoms, given the rubbish they serve up on a regular basis.

I know I may be coming across as a whinger, but I only ad-block as a last resort, and you're almost there.

I acknowledge your frustrations regarding the ad delivery on the site. I will say that we are continuously adjusting such feeds throughout the site to reduce their impact on the end users experience therefore I have made the ad ops aware of your feedback so they can appreciate the frustrations you are facing.

Yes ads are essential to the continual running of the site and always will be unless we introduce a subscription model, however we don't want them to be detrimental to our members.

If as you say, "ads are essential to the continual running of the site" then why has there been such a massive explosion of ads since HM took over? The site must have been paying it's way previously with the smaller amount of advertising before HM took it over?

This smacks of greed IMHO.

My point (this time ) was not about the number or placement or frequency of the ads, but that I do not trust the ad slingers themselves : invalid certs, redirects, auto play videos, pop-overs, etc.
