As per the title.

The support@ph email just bounces back and I can't see any other way of contacting you.

I presume people like Ollie & Lee are voluntary moderators. Back in the day I just used to PM his Worshipfulness Lord Ted or that underling Garlick wink, and stuff happened. Haymarket just sends you to various offices around the globe.

Any ideas ?

The Contact Us page suggests emailing info@pistonheads.com for forum matters.

Alternatively try PMing JD PH, Ollie_M or LeePH. smile

Keep smiling. wink

Thanks for that chaps.

For some reason I kept getting sent to a page which suggested "support@pistonheads.com" as being the solution but it no longer seems to work.

Age, 1 too many trips to Thailand, being rattled round in GT3 cup car for all those years and spending half one's life floating around on the ocean waves do terrible things to a man's marbles smile

Hi all
Support@pistonheads has had to be temporarily deactivated due to a breach of the hosting servers so Spam is being sent by some naughty fellow, with that as the return address.
Whilst we resolve this if you use info@pistonheads.com instead this will also come to my inbox.

regards

Ollie

Well, I tried info@ as well as a PM to Lee yesterday and can report things have remained remarkably quiet.

It would appear there is either no one home in which case let's raid the drinks cabinet and have a party, or else the PH contact machine has broken down somewhere along the line. I know it's not our little club anymore but all the same frown

And yes, as ever - keep smiling.

Is it something the mods can help with?
If so try using the report button.
Otherwise message JD or Ollie ^^^

Have re-sent to everyone.

I do identify with posters on other threads who feel that there no longer seems to be any definite point of contact these days. I hear about different departments but it all seems a bit grey. Ted & Paul (Garlick) were very hands on and provided a stable foundation upon which moderators could act. They managed to maintain a small family feel, incredible when you consider the vastness of the place.

I do hope Ted is enjoying his life of sun, sea, the occasional scribble and an army of scantily clad helpers smile

Well, we are now at the end of the week and I am no closer to making contact with "Pistonheads" who ever they are these days. Ollie, a veteran of 3 months has said he has seen my email but sadly no one in the empire seems that bothered. Certainly not bothered enough to marry fingers to keyboard.

Just to provide a bit of background we placed an IT related job vacancy in the Computers, Gadgets & Stuff section. I put a little bit in the post about wanting to keep the advert in that section as it was IT related and the Jobs section seems more related to employment problems rather than jobs available. The post got moved to the Jobs & Employment section.

I was asking if I could re-post the vacancy in the Computers, Gadgets & Stuff forum. 5 days on and still no resolution either way.

Come on people. I realise that Pistonheads isn't mine. I don't own it in any way. Rather bizarrely I'm the commodity, the animal in the zoo which Haymarket charge people to visit whether through banners, stickies or the classified section - something I pay for every month and have done for some time.

I've been on PH for a while, played my very small part in making it the place it is today but at the moment I'm feeling quite let down. Either PH are saying they don't value me enough to get in touch or they are saying they don't value the other members enough to offer them quite an interesting employment opportunity.

Initially I was only going to offer the job via PH as I firmly believe the right person is on here somewhere (in the C, G & S section), but I gave up waiting and posted up a free advert on Indeed from which I have had some positive responses.

Pistonheads is a really unusual place which requires individuals to feel valued and there needs to be a sense of entitlement, ownership or similar. Why else would people display the PH logo on their cars? Certainly for me that isn't happening. It's not the end of the world, I have plenty of other stuff to be getting on with but...

Hi Henry,

I am a veteran of only 3 months as that is when I started my position here at PistonHeads.

I have just checked my emails and I sent an email to you asking is you send over more information about the role so I could determine if it was relevant for the C,G & S forum

If the email didn't land than I can only apologise.
Please can you send it through to my email and I will discuss with you in due course.

Hi there Ollie

I am aware you have only been with PH for 3 months.

Not sure what more I can add to the information in the thread you moved and to which I linked in my email to you :

"An interesting role within a small company who sell CCTV equipment. Part of a slightly larger, very well established parent company who sell Porsches.

We are looking for a Jack (or Jill) of several trades.

Good IT skills are essential. You will be setting up remote access to customer’s CCTV systems using screen sharing sessions. You must thoroughly understand port forwarding on routers. You will also help them access their systems on a variety of platforms including mobile phones and tablets.

The ability to update websites adding and removing products. Basic HTML programming skills would be useful here although there is a user friendly back end. Even our noble leader can add and remove stuff it so it must be simple ! The back end of the website is also used to provide customers with quotes which can easily be translated into an order.

You will be dealing with customers both during the planning stages of their project, ordering, installation (all our systems are self install) and on going support. Good verbal communication skills are vital - I know, IT and the ability to communicate with people, who ever would have though it possible smile. We use simple Photoshop editing to produce plans showing where on a customer’s site cameras might be located.

You will be assembling orders. This involves basic testing of equipment prior to shipping as well as building up DVRs, installing hard drives, formatting them and installing the basic settings so customers can enjoy plug & play operation.

A basic understanding of photography would be handy as these principles underpin CCTV. Angle of view and lens relationship etc. We also use still and video images within the website to demonstrate technical aspects of CCTV.

Finally knowledge and understanding of social media and other SEO related topics would be a bonus. We are internet based and keen to maximise our presence on the world wide web.

We spend a lot of effort trying to ensure customers understand what CCTV can and can’t do. We help them avoid common mistakes and make sense of the generally poor and misleading information offered by most suppliers. We are about to launch a new HD product range up which has several benefits over existing equipment and should prove rather popular.

We are based just outside Uxbridge, M25 J16, M40 J1 and work from a quiet rural location although we are only a few minutes from Uxbridge tube station. We are very much a linear rather than hierarchical company. There are no line bosses or managers to hold back your progress. You get to touch smell and see the MD on a daily basis. If you have a good idea it won’t get stolen, plagiarised or otherwise credited to someone far less talented than yourself. It does however mean if you are a lazy git with very little useful input you will get found out instantly.

This has the potential to be a very long term relationship taking you to the dizzy heights of running the day to day operation if that’s what you want. If your aim is slightly lower we value everyone in the chain.

This role has come about due to someone who has worked for us for 6 years making a bit of a career change. They are parting on good terms and will work with the new team member to ensure as smooth an entry as possible.

You will no doubt expect to be paid for your services although if you do happen to be an eccentric billionaire who particularly wants to work in CCTV purely for fun then please don’t let us stop you from applying. We thought a starting salary somewhere in the region of £30k dependent on what you bring to the table."

We have got someone coming round next week for a couple of days to see how things go from a source other than PH so it might not be relevant now. I did give it several days before opening up the position beyond PH but couldn't wait any longer.

A shame. I thought it might have been an opportunity to keep things in the family and for someone to benefit in some small way from their PH involvement.

Hi Henry

Your original Post was moved by one of the moderators. However now I can see the relevance of the job role with the CG&S and therefore I have moved back into that forum for you. I will also notify all moderators of this to ensure that it remains.

Apologies once again for the email issues and I wish you the best of luck in sourcing a candidate for the role.

The advert was moved back into the jobs section.

I posted another post explaining that you had authorised it's insertion into the CG&S section - both in the heading and also the main body. That was deleted. Not sure where it went or why, no email.

I've re-posted.

How do the mods work these days. Do you talk to each other? Do they actually read the posts.

I've just seen the new post has been deleted again.

Sod this for a game of soldiers. I've deleted the original advert.

As a long time member of Pistonheads I'm not going to waste my time and effort contributing when you treat people in this way.

LOL!!!!!!

The World doesn't revolve around you and your business, although it's clear to see from the wording of your posts and also that cringeworthy job advert that you don't understand that.

The writing style of the advert I can't help. I'm not an author, but on the other hand I don't want to just do a cut & paste. I want to try and inject a sense of what working for us is like. Interestingly the response from people to the advert has been very positive thus far. You are the only person who has questioned it.

You are quite right that I'm not the only person on PH, far from it, but I've served my time, contributed far more than just the odd one line put down and I hope added in some small part to the place. I haven't looked at your posting history so can't compare myself to you. I may pale into insignificance in comparison.

I am also a monthly financial contributor to PH and have been for many years.

There are plenty of free to use job sites out there and I've had some success from them. So I don't think I'm asking for anything unreasonable. Ultimately we are offering someone on PH a £30k job which could potentially double or more in the future. Is that not worth pulling your finger out for? A little added bonus for the whole PH experience.

All I was asking for was for the thread to be left in the CG&S section rather than moving it into the jobs & employment section. A week down the line and I'm still no nearer to achieving that. Ultimately I'm running a business and whilst I'm happy to turn a blind eye to he odd slip up I can't wait forever. It is now unlikely that anyone from PH will get the job because they won't know it exists. I have had to advertise it elsewhere. But I wasn't going to.

As I've said before PH is a really wierd place. PH is asking people to comit a lot of time to creating the community. See the posts some people make. If they were being paid by their company to write them or give the advice many of those posts would be valued in the hundreds of pounds. PH needs them for free. It then seeks to monetise the forum giving nothing back to the people who created the content.

It's an amazing concept but it does require PH to appreciate and nurture the people creating their valuable copy.

But at the same time, PH offers a fairly decent platform for people to share their views and discuss topics with one another. I understand that we are the product, they need us, but we do in turn also need them to continue to use their platform.

It also appears that a genuine effort was initially made to respond to you and unfortunately a few wires got crossed which I am sure you can understand as you run a CCTV business wink

I didn't realise people actually donated Money to PistonHeads, I thought it was owned by a publishing Company.

Apologies for the earlier tone of my post, my view was somewhat clouded by a couple of beers during a lunch time meeting.

My one final point in response to the post after yours... I've been a member for 6 or 7 years but have read the forums for longer than that and, for as long as I can remember since that time, people have always been moaning about the website "going downhill" or that "it's not the same as it used to be". There has always been an element of good, bad, and ugly, as is the nature of online forums. I would say that PH is one of the few forums that has managed to stand the test of time.

I think the OP is referring to the fact that he contributes to PH financially in the form of advertising revenue.

It is a little sad that someone has made the effort to post a job that many on PH would go for or like to go for and that it can't find it's way to the right place.
I don't think the OP is annoyed for his own benefit, more to the fact that another PH'er may miss an opportunity.
