How do the page numbers work?

Apologies if I am missing something obvious, but the page numbers in threads don't seem to be working in the way I would expect. For instance a thread may have 38 pages, if I click on page 38 (to see the most recent post) the thread will open on page 1. Furthermore, when navigating through the various pages, 2, 3, 4 etc some posts seem to be repeated or back to front for example a reply to a particular post may be on page 2 but the original post is displaying on page 5, later in the thread?!

If you go to My Info then Preferences on the drop down menu, make sure you have Topic Display set to "ascending" rather than "descending".

Perfect. It wasn't set to either for some reason, so I have set to ascending and it seems to display each thread in chronological order now. Thanks for your help.Does that help?
