Nice one, Ted.

Question though: why have you only included the "I know what size /speed rating my tyres are" code ?

I've looked at the sponsor's website (keep 'em happy, you know...) and they have another way of choosing, namely the "I know what my car is, but I'm damned if I know what size the boots are..." set of questions.

Although curiously, BlackCircle think my Merc is shod with 17's. It's not.

I've tried both methods of asking for prices, via Pistonheads and via their website, and it gives me completly different tyre make choices
Funnily enough via Teds it gives me a good price for Toyo's or SO2's which were never mentioned from their website just Goodyears Pirelli's Conti's etc.

Primarily I chose that method because I reckoned the readers of PH know what they're after.

The mechanism is fairly crude currently with the PH form soliciting a human response (which is probably preferable!). I think the BlackCircles site is an automated lookup.

My head nearly popped off when I got the quote back this morning - Toyo Proxes T1-S £35 a corner!!!

Turned out they had made a mistake for which they apologised profusely. However, I may investigate their deals further as their prices seem good.

Tyre cost (all inclusive to you):

225/50/16ZR
Toyo Proxes T1S £79.33
Kumho Ecsta £54.19
Bridgestone S02 Pole Position £94.40

+£7.50 fitting each tyre, doesn't seem to bad to me.

Not speaking for Black Circles on this, but just as the guy who put the website together, the difference can be down to several things.

The first is that the price/part list used by the website is due to be updated RSN.

Also the method of fitting you choose effects the choice of tyres offered as Black Circles have different suppliers for mobile, and depending on your location, drive-in fitting. I suspect best prices and choice will normally be obtained by selecting the mail-order option.

It makes no difference which method you choose, drive-in, mobile, or mail order, same tyres, same prices.
But it does say if you want something different email them

Hi Guys.

First and foremost thank you all very much for checking out the tyre finder.

I can probably shed some light on a couple of the issues raised;

1) Differing prices and stock - Our online system is a database of our 'constant' stock. We carry two separate price databases as we source from two separate stock sources (we are working on this and will be quoting from just one pricing structure within the next 3 months - I would recommend checking mail order for the best deals or even better call us!).

2) Ted and our site quote differences - manual quotes give us the flexibility to quote on the spot, the web prices need to be set at a low price that is still a safe price for us to advertise on the World Wide Web! It just ensures that if industry prices change for the worst we don’t get caught short.

To sum up: the best way to get an up to the hour quote is to use Ted's system - if any of you want to get an immediate response either use our 'mail order' section or ring our sales line.

I hope this answers a few questions, if anyone wants to discuss further just let me know.

Thanks again for all your interest,

Mike.
