Voting Booth ?
Discussion
Ted, theres a great feature on PPRuNe that would be nice to see on Pistonheads.
Go to www.pprune.org/ click on Humour, then click on CRM Booth.
This feature allows subscribers to create voting slips which everybody else then votes for.
Sounds harmless enough, but check out the content on PPRuNe. I think the PH sense of humour would have a field day....

right - I've had a good look at the code now and it's a gruesome rats nest of perl. The guy who wrote this knows his stuff, but he's a total geek who only wrote this in perl to prove that it can be done with such meagre technology, but boy is it cumbersome.. and it'll get really upset with multiple concurrent sessions..
I mean look at the guys website.. www.shavenferret.com/scrpts/ ... I didn't see a pic of him but I have an image of him.. he's pale to the point of translucent, stick thin with lank black hair and probably paints his fingernails black. And he plays live roleplay at the weekend.
Anyway, I've decided I could do the whole thing better with ASP and an Access database, so I might plough into that tomorrow instead of trying to polish a turd..

Right - I've got something running. Take a look:
www.fffnh.com/vote
Points of note:
i) You can vote as many times as you like at the moment, but I've built in the ability to allow only one vote per topic per IP address - saves arsing about with cookies. I'll be enabling this at some point.
ii) You can add new options to vote for on any topic upto a maximum of 15 options
iii) You can't yet create your own topics - I'm still working on that - it's not difficult, just haven't done it yet..
Any feedback always appreciated..
Once a few of you have had a play with it and proven that it works, I'll avail the masses of it an put a link on my front page..

PS - Pls note that some of the question and options are a bit daft because I've just shoved my test database up there.. (as it were )
Oh and there's not much validation being done, so if you start shoving unhelpful characters into any new options you input, expect JET errors..

Well, my evening went something like this....
... ... ... ... ...
... ... ... ...
... ... ...
I coded in a mechanism to restrict multiple voting by checking the client IP and recording it in the Database with the vote for cross checking ..
But.. I Fcuking should have known better
My service provider obviously has some traffic management device acting as a 'transparent' (Ha!) proxy.. so the IP address it records with the vote is not the client IP, but the IP of a box at the ISP.
Arse.. and it's been working fine with my staging server..
Oh well.. live & learn.... I'm turning the bloody computer off now or I'm gonna be throwing it at the cat shortly..
I got the sort mechanism done though.. pinched it from www.4guysfromrolla.com/demos/2dsort.asp as I found that while I was looking for something to remind me... easy life..

It's now new & improved (well, a lot more gubbins anyway)....
You can now create your own Poll online!(woohoo )
Suggestions appreciated whilst I'm still developing the project...
