Brought a brand new Huracan Performanate and was shocked to see how much stone damage the front radiators received after only a 100 odd miles. I seems to be a common issue and I've not seen a solution.

After a bit of playing around with some a3 paper and cardboard trying to make a template , I realised that there is a small gap between the radiator and the front spolier. The thin cardboard would easily slip down it. The gaps around the radiator will hold the mesh in place.

I looked into rigid aluminium mesh but you cannot get it into place with out bending. Then I came across Aluminium insect / fly-screen mesh, its easily bendable. See - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/60x60cm-PHIFER-FINE-WOV...

You can just roll it up, and then unroll once in front of the rads. To avoid scratching, i've put folded tape along all the cut edges. So I made a paper template by placing it in front of each radiator and just cut out the mesh, added tape around the edges, but you can get rubber u channel on Amazon.

Checked the airflow with a hairdryer on the mesh and it seemed fine.

Adding such a fine mesh will restrict the air flow, how much of an effect is difficult to tell. It will be fine for road driving but if you ever take it to a track I would remove it!

I agree, I'll just keep an eye on the temperature in summer. I did buy PPI foam originally but the flow was so poor it was a none starter. I did think that the flow would be affected by damaged fins from stone and insects so on balance it wouldn't make no difference compared to undamaged fins but mesh in front.

Brand new car and you're farting about with mesh? take it back to the dealers and complain.

Aside from anything else, it looks awful.

What will the supplying dealer do, redesign the front bumper?

OP, my car is black so black mesh will work well, glad I saw your post.

Interesting. Same problem on a Ducati Panigalle. They make a plastic protector that you can fit.
Still fills up with crud though in the winter.

Just a heads up for you guys.
A few friends of mine with perf’s have had the same issues as you. There radiators were completely obliterated and clearly the cooling is affected.
A fellow owner developed a more aesthetically pleasing solution which I think you guys would love.
Speak to Raj at www.supercarservice.co.uk and have chat.
Cheers
Pete
