Hi,

I’m just coming out of an V8 R8 (my second one) and after waiting for the right V10 R8 to come up have been drifting over to look at other options in the same price bracket.

Gallardos are now coming down to my price range and from what I’ve been reading they don’t look too prohibitive to use as an almost daily driver in terms of running cost.

I’ve seen this car and it looks like very good value, perhaps too good?

Does anyone know it?

Thanks

Hi,
I’ve been on the hunt for a while now ( just got mine last week) this one has been around for a while ,mind you not a lot are moving at the moment .
Mileage and colour are the first things that put me off also it has no front lift which I need living down my road , priced low though so could be a bargain but I’d want the service history checked out , clutch life etc.

Thanks for the reply Paul.

Yes a bit of a slow market but strangely enough 3 of the r8 v10 spyders I have wanted to buy in the last 2 weeks have sold at asking price before I’ve been able to view.

I’m actually after a black spyder in either guise so this one is perfect for me in that sense.

Did you get a PPI on yours if so who did you use?

Did you purchase a warranty?

Thanks

Don't see why the mileage is an issue. Its averaged ~3k a year, hardly excessive. How its been driven is more important than the miles, but can be hard to know.

You want to know that its been cared for and serviced as scheduled by someone who knows what they're doing. Lots of paperwork would be good. Clutch reading is important. No lifting gear or reversing camera, which are traditionally seen as value-adding, but the price seems quite low anyway.

I was interested in this car, the seller said it was at Supercar Rooms for a service and to have some cats fitted (as you can see the EML is on in the pics), and said I could call the for a chat about the car.

Spoke to the guy there who kindly sent me the report of the work needed. Not much I can say beyond shocking.

I'm sure I cant post the report on here but a conservative estimate would be that the car needs about £20k of work, highlights include:
Clutch doesn't engage properly
Various Oil leaks
Coolant leak
Cooling Fan doesn't work
AC doesn't work
Roof doesn't work
Needs 2 rear tyres
Needs 2 cats
Various fault codes Front & car discs needed

From my research I found the car has been used as a track day experience car, which I guess explains why it is trashed.

I have owned 3 x Gallardo's, 2 early ones and one very late 2013 model so I know these cars well and was looking for a cheap one to keep forever that perhaps needed a bit of TLC, but this is too extreme for me, needless to say I'm no longer interested unless the guy will take £35k for it!

Thanks for the info very useful if somewhat disappointing.

Do you know when the car was in for this service and if it had any of the work done that the garage told you it needed?

I was planning on doing a PPI before making an offer but obviously information like you have provided is what I was fishing for so I appreciate you letting me know.

That being said it’s from a dealer not private so if any of these faults hadn’t been rectified before sale and they came up shortly after purchase I assume they would be liable?

Its still with the Supercar Rooms, nothing has been done yet, and it seems the intention is to juts replace the cats and a CV boot so it can get an MOT.

What you have said about it being from a dealer is correct, but bear in mind this isn't HR Owen, the company is about a year old from what I can see with no assets. I doubt you would get anything back off them with ease, and even if you eventually do - do you want to have to take them to court for it?

That said, I assume some of the work would need to be done if they want to sell it as it currently doesn't sound drivable!

I have had 2 x R8's as well and in my experience these cars are not the same. You can run into tens of thousands of £££'s in bills very easily, and nd up avoiding driving them for fear of something breaking!

Im personally looking for a cheaper one on the basis that I now have a few cars and can stick this in the garage for a bit of fun now and then, whereas before I was pretty much using them daily and it became a pain.

Yep my guess was £20-30k by the time you are finished.

I’ve had relatively minor sensors changed on these cars and ended up spending £1500 once all said and done!

Good grief, criminal neglect. On the upside, mine works so it must be worth 90k.

Yes I had a PPI done by the same garage that had looked after it for 7 years , no warranty although it’s from a dealer but I don’t expect much comeback from them to be honest, came with all paperwork and slacks of service history + new clutch so fingers crossed .

Wow speechless really and so glad I posted on this forum, what an invaluable resource.

Looks like I won’t be going any further on this car and I feel sorry for the person who doesn’t get to hear about these issues and ends up buying it.

You are right, looking at the dealer they perhaps wouldn’t be in a position to rectify a serious issue with the car and it’s hassle I could do without.

I think at my budget for this car I’m too close to the bottom of the barrel here and now considering just sitting tight and waiting for a suitable r8 v10 to come up.

As said, that is a complete turd of a car.
These cars are not cheap to run. Not easy to sell either, due to the high running costs.
So many of these cars have been for sale for 1+ years.

Id be comfy carrying out 90% of those works (not the oil leaks), as would anyone useful in the garage, problem is they wont drop the price to reflect what's needed so why would anyone bother. Shame as for the right money someone could save this old girl
