Gallardo Exhaust Clamps - Having stainless ones made
Discussion
Just a little project some might be interested in.
I have a new full exhaust system turning up in a few days, obviously one of the annoying issues is the potential for the original exhaust clamps to snap the studs off, and with being being anywhere upto 100 quid to replace, I thought id rather get them made of stainless than replace with the crap cast stock ones.
Built a cad design as best possible from the clamp I had...
And then sent off to 3d printing to test fitment which is absolutely perfect.
With the prototypes fitting perfectly, I went back and added some more material, this is for 2 reasons.
1) It reduces the machining time and cost
2) It strengthens the part
Overall I am happy with where its at now and am waiting for the cnc shop to let me know when they are starting work on them.
Hopefully soon

Good job! What sort of price are you getting them at - I guess it depends on quantity?
Yea, ive got a few owners pitching in for the first batch which is pulling the cost down massively. If you wanted a set for just one car it would be near enough 80-100 quid for a clamp.Fortunately due to ordering ~80 or so, the cost is closer to 50 quid.

I had a nosey at your car and pieces when at RE a few weeks ago
Looking first or second week of April for the last ones to finish up, if you want a set will need a commitment over the next few days to book up the cnc time needed.
I’ll point Ricky in the direction of this thread.......Looking first or second week of April for the last ones to finish up, if you want a set will need a commitment over the next few days to book up the cnc time needed.

Id be keen on a set.
Cool, I was just checking the rules because while im not making anything on these (I am literally doing them at cost price) I wasnt sure if people asking to buy them would be allowed. It seems this rule may apply however: Group buys and limited run rare parts threads are permitted, but we reserve the right to remove them if we feel they are being abused or are overly commercial.
Let me just check some things out to see if with the extra clamps if we can get a better price.

Ricky is already having some Wait until I hear back from Mr. Elder......
Ps: well done! The originals are pretty rubbish!
It may well be that the couple that Ricky is already taking from you are for MY car. But we might actually take another couple, given that the engine is out and we might as well do the whole lot. I’m waiting to hear back from him, but neither of us are in the UK at the moment. Indeed, if it’s going to plan, then he’s at the Australian GP this weekend! One of us will give you a definitive answer early next week, if that’s OK?

Yes theres no rush, cnc is starting on monday and will run for ~2 weeks so any extras you want to tag on the end are fine as long as you give me a few days notice before the end. Saw your nylon test pieces at Ricky’s today and they look very good. As you know (I hope) Ricky now has a full set of four on order from you. The original two that he had on order from you were already earmarked for my car!
(Edited to add....... that’s four PAIRS, for the avoidance of doubt!!)

As promised.
Basically these are gonna be made by hill engineering, as an off the shelf available part
Much easier for all involved as they can be ordered as needed rather than needing to do huge batch runs to get a decent price.
When I first saw this thread I wondered if your clamps were the same as Paul's or going to be a rival - glad to read it's the former. We do a ton of work with Hill and find them a great partner to work with. Quite often I'll have an idea for a new product - instead of having to produce technical drawings/specs and paying for dev/tooling up, I can have a 20 minute chat with Paul and 6-8 weeks later it'll be flying off the production line.Basically these are gonna be made by hill engineering, as an off the shelf available part
