Hello all,

Just wondered has anybody tried to remove their wiper arms on a gallardo?

I have a LHD and the support arm for the drivers side has snapped so I need to replace the arm. I have taken off the large bolt that holds on the main arm as well as the split washer, now I can't see what is holding it on. Is there something I'm missing or do I need a wiper arm removal tool?

Thanks for any help.

I am not familiar with the G but I have done the same on my R8 which is a similar car so it is possible / likely a similar set up, you remove the 13mm nut and then the wiper arm appears to be welded onto the bolt!

I bought this - a bit of an expense but you can keep it for the future wink

A few words of advice:

Before you start, put a piece of masking tape on the screen where the end of the wiper blade sits - mark the top & bottom of the blade, so that when you replace it, you can make sure it is in the correct position. You'll see what I mean when you get the arm off, the bolt that holds it is tapered and has groves on it so there are many angles you can put the arm back on at and only one will be right!

You don't use the tool to pull the wiper off - if you do you may damage / snap the tool. You use the tool to progressively tension the wiper arm as you tap the wiper arm (gently & then harder) with a rubber mallet a few times and you will after a few taps, hear a 'pop' sound as the arm releases. I also sprayed it with penetrating release spray several times the day before.

I would also advise you put a thin sheet of ply or something (I used 3mm) to protect the windscreen as if the tool or your mallet slips, the windscreen is thin around the edge and you may crack it

It sounds daunting but it really isn't. Just don't put the wipers on the wrong way like I did! I got a new pair of arms off eBay for £14! The next cheapest one was £192 so a lucky escape.

Thanks for the great advice. I am ordering a new arm from Lamborghini tomorrow. There are used ones for sale for $400 (my car is LHD so I need a euro or USA one). I called my local dealership and was very pleasantly surprised to find they are £200 plus vat :-D

Have you checked Eurospares, eBay, or any applicable specialist scrappers / breakers?
I literally paid £14 for 2, I would not advocate buying much second hand for a car like ours but a wiper arm, who gives a f, it has no bearing on the looks, reliability, performance or safety of the car and with the £185 saved you can buy a top of the range umbrella:
