End of term: Gallardo 6.5 years ownership.

Well finally got rid of the old mule yesterday, had 6.5 years mostly happy motoring.
Last of the pre LP cars, mine was a 2008 coupe E-gear, Arancio Borealis with Bi-Colour interior.
Never got sick of that glorious V10 scream, mated to the LOC rev5 and decats, cant say I've heard anything better on the road really.
Really are a solid car, still was rattle free and felt very well nailed together.
The thing that bothered me about this car, was the gearbox/clutch.
In my 15k miles I had 2 clutch changeouts. First one was just wear and tear, as I dont know previous owners mechanical sympathy.
The second clutch literally disintegrated and lasted 3k miles, Lamborghini and the specialist that I used had never seen this happen before, the clutch material just broke apart. Condition of the friction plate (pieces) was perfect as I had broken it in correctly and never abused.
Bad luck? probably, but still left a bitter taste.
Other things that went
Egear actuator (£3.5k)
Hydraulic hose for gearbox (£500)
Rear spoiler mechanism (cant remember)
2 x clutches (£8k ish)
They are expensive cars to run, the constant worry of it breaking ultimately led me to sell, as at 10 years, I felt it was time to move on.
Brilliant machine and still looked better than the Huracan in my opinon. (LP560 bumper and ride height adjustment really helped with this.)
I drove the Huracan but just didnt like it, awkward looking thing in my eyes, and just too Audi in the way it drives.

Good to hear you enjoyed it. Gallardos don't get enough love on this forum. They are awesome cars and the lack of gizmos and other modern features makes them a more engaging driving experience. And that V10...
I'm 3 years into mine. Fortunately no big bills yet - being a manual is a big help. Looking forward to quite a few more years.

I'm coming into 2 years of ownership and never had a single problem with mine! Not even a dead battery after 4 weeks in the garage.It's getting a new clutch now but that was the previous owner faults.They are very well built for a supercar and i really like the egear on an open road. Not a car for central london but it can handle it if needed to be.The only thing that i don't like is the major service price lol

I found the lifting system useful on my Gallardo (and so ordered it on my Huracan).
I tend to use it over speed bumps and to tackle steep angles at carpark entrances/driveways etc. Most of the time I think I am just avoiding that irritating scrape that you hear when the sacrificial strip under the nose makes road contact rather than avoiding real damage.
One point on the Gallardo - at least on mine which was an '05 - is that the headlights do not adjust when the nose is raised. This (really) irritates oncoming drivers who assume you are on mainbeam. I think the Huracan's do adjust.
Another odd omission on the Gallardo is a low windscreen washer fluid warning light. That leaves you vulnerable to driving blind on motorways etc in slush etc when you suddenly run out of fluid and cannot clear the screen as I found out once.
All minor issues. I ran my Gallardo for 9 years from new in 2005 until 2014 and it barely missed a beat.

Had my Superleggera for over seven years now and it's still going strong. Aside wear and tear it has previously had the oil pipes replaced due to corrosion (no rear undertray causing that issue I think). It needs new tyres (AGAIN!), new wiper arm (paint falling off) and side mirror glass (wobbly) when it comes out of hibernation in the Spring. Otherwise it's absolutely perfect at 26k miles!
My car doesn't have the lifting kit and I've yet to have any issues - and it's been in quite a few multi-stories. Obviously I have to straddle speed humps etc but if you're used to cars without a lift kit you'll be absolutely fine.
