Looking to buy a Gallardo
Discussion
I'm starting to look for a Gallardo. I've narrowed it down to a LP model. Have been to VVS the other week and I was very impressed with James's manner of dealing with a customer. In terms of spec I love the Superleggera interior and the additional rear wing / sills. They had an early one there which was fantastic apart from the painfully noisy exhausts. My Nissan is bad enough but this was exceptionally loud. The plan at some point is a trip to Monaco. I believe in using and enjoying cars and want to be able to jump in to do a 150 mile trip if desired. The actual question is ; What are they like to live with in comparison to a 'normal one' ?
You'll find more love for the SL1, even though they are slower, older, more prone to problems and look a bit dated in comparison to the SL2 but the SL2 is a touch less raw and probably more suited to your needs. Prices are coming down now and you should be able to pick up a low mileage SL2 for 120k and less for a good condition private sale.

That gen I car has an aftermarket quad pipe back box hence so loud. The factory gen I had twin pipes. All factory exhausts have valves so can be quiet at low revs, so easy to live with.Regards living with, the LP was launched when the 458 was around, and by then supercars were made for female celebs to be able to live with, the LP is very much an everyday car.
If you love the alcantara and carbon interior, neveryoumind on here is looking to sell his 560-2 anniversario e gear, given you already have a 4wd beast, this would compliment it nicely.

Would be nice to get some real world figures here from gameoverman and others, I know the motion 8 cars sold for asking. I think the spread dealers want to sit on a car taken in trade has gone up considerably hence the low offers you've receivedahem !
gallardo buyers guide
2007/8 sl is my personal pick of the bunch, but i don't think i'd recommend it for comfy long distance touring ( he says, having only done 50k ! )

I was looking to get a MK1 SL but the deal fell through at the last minute so bought a LP560-2 50th. Has most of the carbon fibre interior that the SL has apart at form the door cards. Looks good with the carbon bucket seats and a little bit of alcantara and quilted stitching. Carbon Fibre rear wing off the SL and the MK1 SL wheels. Great cars and looks stunning with the metallic paint work.
Plus its RWD so is way more fun.
I could be interested in selling it as I am looking at a 458. Though I get the feeling I will regret selling it but you live and learn

To answer OP's question, the SL is no less capable than the standard Gallardo. They are a bit louder (a conversation with a passenger is possible on the motorway) and the ride a touch firmer (again nothing too bad), but neither are really factors that would prevent you using the SL the same as a base Gallardo.
I've taken my mk1 SL away for several very enjoyable driving tours away and it's been faultless and surprisingly comfortable.

It's quality not quantity that's important. Fortunately quality has just arrived gentleman. Real men, like 70 proof and me, drive proper Gallardo's. The RWD variety
