Gallardo 5k rpm brick wall
Discussion
So my Gallardo just arrived and it won't go past 4500-5000rpm in any gear. It almost seems to be like a brick wall and just won't go past it..
It seems to start OK and run fine but when driving it just won't go past 5000rpm at all and starts hesitating at that rpm.
The guy I bought it from had the fuel sensor replaced pretty recently so could it be something to do with this?
I know this is a massive long shot but has anyone had similar.
2009 LP560.

Firstly congrats on your new car....
Are there any warnings coming up on the dash... I had a faulty high pressure fuel sensor but what would happen is I'd get a car in engine protection warning and revs limited to 6k on the dash.... There are limp modes, the worst at 2.5k revs, which the ECU triggers to protect the car, but you should get a warning between the revs and speedo

Thanks.
No warnings at all!
Starts fine and isn't jerky or anything but it just won't go past 5k. I don't know how accurate this is but it almost seems that the revs drop by 500 every gear you go up. (5000 4th gear, 4500 4th gear)
Which absolutely ruins any drive purely because I can start to hear the exhaust just before then nothing.

What is the mileage on the car?
Just wondering if there's a rev limiter until the engine is run in....
ETA, it's a 2009 car, so will have sufficient miles. Might be worth reading thru the handbook to see if, when new, there is a rev limiter for the first 1,000 miles. In which case, the ECU might be telling the engine it's new.
Just a thought.

Have you owned a Gallardo before? There is a little known feature in these cars that detects a potential novice, where the car activates a feature called YTISF Avoidance. (You Tube Idiot Supercar Fails). This restricts engine power.
It will automatically deactivate once you have driven it a while.

I’ve encountered this before. Usually after I’ve not driven or started the car for a number of months.
Clears after a run and doesn’t re-occur as long as the car is used or at least started every few weeks.
These cars don’t like standing still for long periods of time in my experience, but I don’t think it’s anything to be too worried about.

Since the time of me posting, it hasn't happened again.
It had pretty much been sitting around for 8 months so as has been said, maybe it just didn't like it.
I now have a more pressing issue, the fan is constantly on as soon as you start the engine and sounds like it's on overdrive.
Aircon also doesn't work so took it to get re-gassed but they said it wasn't holding a vacuum.

If the fan comes on from cold then you have a issue with the temp sensor for the fan, or a short on the wiring causing it to activate with the ignition. It could be the cable has started to deteriorate over time. I would take it to a decent independent and ensure they have auto electrician skills to trace the problem.
For the AC issue, I guess they mean its not holding gas under pressure? Did they run a leak test with dye, this could pinpoint the leak and aid investigation. They can use a UV light to see under the bonnet where the gas is escaping. Most AC repair places can run this test for you for just a few quid, when a car is left for long periods without the AC being used the seals on the pump and fittings can dry out (the refrigerant is a lubricant).
