LP560-2 to Mk1 SL
Discussion
No rationale really however its the car I originally wanted but instead I bought the 50th. No remorse on the 50th it's freaking awesome and it's RWD but would the SL give me something a little bit more special?
And it's just sold, though not to me. 2nd time I've missed out on that car.

But what more does the SL bring? 4WD at the sacrifice of steering feel? And it's just sold, though not to me. 2nd time I've missed out on that car.

Unless I'm missing something, I just see this as a step back - older car, less steering feel, older engine/box and not as good power/weight. 50th Anniversary is the one to have of all the Gallardos IMHO, although sadly nobody spec'd one with the manual in the UK
Genuinely interested in opinions on this as I have often considered both.
The MK1 SL is a lot more hardcore than your 560-2.
In comparison, the MK1 SL has stiffer suspension, louder exhaust, less sound deadening, thinner windscreen, some polycarbonate windows instead of glass, p zero corsa tyres (unless they've been changed), no parking sensors. Most of them will have (early tech) CCBs, 4 point harnesses with half roll cage and some with no stereo. Then you have to consider the refinements that LP brought over pre-LP and that 4WD feels less refined than 2WD IMO, such as crabbing when tight lock at low speeds etc.
So, the SL definitely won't be as easy to live with as a daily over your 560-2, but (depending how you view things) might feel more special as a weekend car.

The 570 SL2 or Performante are a whole step-up from the 560 and a much better choice.
I'm genuinely interested to know what changes Lamborghini made to the 570-4 SL2 over the 560-4, other than the extra 10ps. The weight saving is reported to not be as much as with the MK1 SL over the MK1 Gallardo (520ps), so does that mean they didn't go quite as extreme, or did the 560-4 already have some weight saving bits?I can't actually find anything definitive on the 'net about this, other than carbon bits were used.
\sorry for slight thread drift
I love the gen 1 SL and to me, the subsequent gen SL's were just tarted up 560's. Personal choice though.
The gen 1 brakes are quite grabby, probably matters less on an e gear car but makes H&T more challenging on a manual.
The cars are 10 years old but still look fresh today. A classic piece of design.

the 550/60/70 had similar consumption and emission figures, and the originally published torque curves were identical save for the +/-2% tweek at peak revs

- There is a black ceramic coating applied to the exhaust tips as seen on some previous Lamborghinis, rather than a ceramic exhaust.
- Titanium wheel nuts, rather than the actual wheels which are a forged alloy.
- The weight saving is reported as 70kg over the 560-4, you are thinking of the MK1 SL which has the 100kg reported weight saving over the standard car.
- 0-60mph in 3 seconds dead, really? Lamborghini claims 0-100kmh in 3.4s.
What I'm interested to know though is, does the 570-4 SL have thinner windscreen glass, polycarbonate windows and removed sound deadening?
Also I just had a look at a video of the tarted up engine bay, why add stuff when you can just remove it totally like the original SL?

the thinner windscreen and poly windows were carried over
not sure re the sound proofing, but reverting to the standard engine meant it was sadly much quieter
The LP560-2 is the lightest of the Gallardo's. well according to 70proof and he should know.
Sticking with mine at the end of the day not only as that SL is sold (Max your off my Christmas card list) but mainly as I love that it's RWD and just a lot of fun.
According to Lambo my 0 - 60 is 3.2. Just saying

Well his is green so it's faster than most but
1,558 kg (3,434 lb) Supperleggera[4]
1,547 kg (3,410 lb) LP550-2
You can shave 30 lbs of the LP550-2 as the 560-2 comes with carbon buckets, well mine does.
How much does a manual gen 1 SL weigh without that egear gubbins? Mine is manual. 1,558 kg (3,434 lb) Supperleggera[4]
