Which Gallardo?

Hi all
I am currently considering selling my 1967 Jaguar E-type in favour of something Lamborghini shaped. I've generally been a bit nervous of owning a lambo as not sure what sort of reaction (positive/negative) owners get as the E-type gets nothing but love wherever it goes. The second and main reason though is I've become very attached to the E-type and it will be difficult for me to let it go. It's not only a great car to drive and enjoy but it's also proven to be a good investment and if I do replace it I don't want to buy something that is going to depreciate like a stone and would ideally like to find something that has the potential to appreciate over time. However I just don't use the car enough and I've always dreamed of owning an Italian exotic so maybe now is the time to look at moving on.
So I am probably looking at a Gallardo as budget won't stretch to a Huracan and am wondering which version would be the best long term option for both enjoyment and depreciation? I was thinking the facelift Superleggera but noticed the price of Balboni's have gone a little crazy so do you think a final year 2 wheel drive, manual would be better option? Open to suggestions so would be good to hear which model you guys would recommend

This. Wouldn't worry too much about people's reactions as long as you like it. Saying that, in my experience Lambo's seem to generate a LOT of love from the public. In fact I wasn't prepared for just how much. Whether that floats your boat is another discussionTrev
In 30 years, I've never filled up a Lambo with fuel and not had a (nice) conversation with someone.
Never expect a car not to depreciate.
Sometimes they don't, which is a nice suprise.
E-type values have fallen in the past. May happen again.
Car values are inevitably impacted by supply. Probably more Gallardos than all the other Lambos ever put together.

Have to agree, my Lambo owning experience, now on my third, is all positive, previously owned Ferraris seem to create a more mixed reaction from people.
Which one is more difficult to answer, but both the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Superleggeras are lovely cars, I think the fad for manuals will eventually fade, but the slightly edgy design and execution of the SL will remain...

Rich (PhoenixUK on here) would offer a good insight but he's currently away doing a few days motorbike trip with StuB. Summarising what he has said to me is that the Lambo (Huracan) gets a universally positive reaction as against his line of previous Ferraris, which have brought a mixed reaction. By contrast, he's just bought an E-Type and said the Huracan pales into insignificance to the reaction of almost everyone, everywhere.
LP570 Superleggera is the one to get. Modern and fast (3secs to 60, tops at 201mph), just enough gadgets, but with a rawness that makes you turn the stereo down. Downshifts in race (Corsa) mode are addictive. The engineering is basically two-thirds Super Trofeo race car. A work of art on wheels.

they are all enjoyable, so model choice comes down to what you want.....
the fastest will be the gen II superleggera, note performante is 100+KG heavier than the coupe
the best drivers car ,imho, is the 2wd as steering feel is better and back end needs to be controlled by right foot
the balboni has appreciated the most in the last year for sure, three years ago you could pick one up under 100, they have not appreciated like a scud however, neither has the gen I superleggera
there were only 14uk anniversary cars, I think circa 10 left, none manual - I would recommend one of these, read my arguments in threads linked
there is talk of one manual 2wd spyder, there were more 2wd coupes in manual, and there were manual balbonis
manuals are in vogue right now, in 10 years, any slightly analogue car will be sought after imho, and the Gallardo falls in this group....
re modern cars... really see macs being scary in the future once out of warranty, as will the huracan, and I would say 458 onwards.... the thought of fixing a computer glitch certainly would concern me....

Thanks for all the replies guys, some really interesting reading on the other topics linked to from here and seems to be down to personal taste as to which Gallardo is the right one. There are also more special edition models and variants than I first thought. Could anyone tell about the final facelift version of the Gallardo that came in in 2013 with the revised front and rear bumper. I've seen a few 50th anniversary models advertised some with the older bumpers and some the new so when did they come in and what models do they feature on?
I found a picture of a lovely looking 550-2 on google, has the final shape bumpers and SL rear wing. Something like this would be right up my street.

What I can tell you is no one liked the trapezoid refresh. Not even Lamborghini, as the later model Anniversario went back to the previous gen2 front and rear bumpers.Lamborghini did bring out a final Squadra Corsa with the trapezoid bumpers however.

The LP superleggera and performante were not limited run, from 2013 the edition technica was available which was essentially a options as standard upgrade.... they never got the final bumper facelift to the last bar the squadra corsa
The facelift bumper was released in 2013 for the lp560-4 coupe and Spyder only very late in the cars life and just so happens in the anniversary year... the facelift was a final facelift, not an anniversary special... some dealers are throwing the word anniversary into the sales pitch...

That red car pic of a 550-2 can't be... the 2wd didn't get the facelift, hence anniversario neither...
It looks like a squadra corse but the rear wing is wrong.... if it is a 550-2 then it's been pimped at great expense
The 2wd didn't sell well in the U.K. So numbers are very low. It was also the cheapest variant... the balboni was more than the 4wd when released.... some 2wd cars are POV spec as it was a cheap way into new lambo ownership.... that red car will be us for sure

I have one of these and whilst I am not an expert with huge experience driving a wide range of Supercars, I absolutely love it and based on my experience of driving it, coming up to a year now, I would highly receommend it. It is a bit more special than a LP560 because it is a LP570, maybe not a pure "Special" from a Limited Edition perspective but very special to drive IMO. I too am slightly put off by the reports of Huracan being more techy and clinical (Pethaps not new Performante) but never having driven a Huracan, speak without direct comparative experience. Plus to me the Gallardo looks better. Just my opinion.
Always received positive reactions and lots of attention, so be prepared for that. You can't drive one on a bad hair day, with people constantly taking pics with mobiles while out and about...just smile and wave! Lol.
Very useable too. I drive mine a fair bit and yes....even in the rain! Shocking as that may be to some people. Then again, it is not made of paper so why not? Buy a snow foam lance and it comes up a treat. On a good run can get 22-25 MPG too, so my daily Cayenne Turbo drinks more than the Lambo.
There are some threads on useful tips for using e Gear correctly to reduce clutch wear, both in here and on You Tube. Worth reading.
