Gallardo clutch
Discussion
I havnt heared of any recent clutch issues from owners on here for a while
Stories of being scared to be stuck in traffic seemed to of been doing the rounds on the inter web
and is some what off putting.
I'm looking at a 07 spyder at the moment and the last thing I want to be doing is worrying whilst driving about the certainty of traffic in London, this would guarantee to take the shine off ownership for me
Are clutches still fragile?
Are track days a definately no no ? Would be a massive shame if it is
Does the F1 in a f430 have the same issues? I also never har of clutch issues in regards to the r8 v10 how come is it not the same system
If I want to really use this car and I mean use should I be looking at the German Marques Audi r8/911
I love Lamborghini and I've always promised myself one but I also loved the reliable feeling my r8 v8 gave me, come wind or rain I was never afraid to drive it

early versions of the clutch were fragile...... by 07 it was sorted, that's why you don't hear of issues with the twinned r8, which got the revised clutch. in traffic, simply put it in neutral, don't let it slip... Andrew has done over 40k miles and is on his first clutch... includes sitting in the wilton line ups, that's worse than London traffic!

I've done the opposite, i was thinking of getting another Gallardo, But went for a test drive in a V10 R8 Spider, My mind was made up instantly. I bought the R8. It's faster, handles better, smoother, just nicer all round than the Gallardo, I can only compare it really to the pre LP, i have owned an 05 coupe and an 07 Spyder. It is in lots of ways similar to the Gallardo but feels more refined. The only thing missing is the lambo badge in my opinion. it's how the Gallardo should be.70proof said:

So is the r8 v10 noticably quicker than the pre lp?icebite78 said:

with cars like the AMG GT for £100k is hard to part with £100k for a lambo with egear and 10 year old design.
the F430 has also put me off
I cannot help but keep coming back to owning the R8 V10 plus, badge aside the R8 does seem a far better car for less money now days.
£85k for a one year old £135k car with 550 BHp and DSG. what's not to like ...We're in very similar places at the moment. FWIW I started looking at R8 V10s, GTs in fact because the ltd edition numbers is usually good for residuals and lets face it they look great and appear to be the ultimate R8. But after lots of drives of both them and the Plus there's no doubt the Plus is the best R8 of them all and thats saying something. But its almost unobtainable as a manual so the , very fine, S Tronic is the only real choice
But think about what you've just stated, the car has lost 40k in a little over a year. Thats great now but indicates a less than stellar residual performance so far and likely in the next couple of years IMHO. The car is wonderful but its also got a prosaic badge shared with a super-mini and its just ever so slightly , well, sensible.
But then I thought about what it was that so appealed to me most about the R8 V10 was its magical N/A V10. wonderful chassis, reliable high quality engineering etc etc but I'd never choose the V8 tbh. Not when the V10 exists.
So if I really wanted the Lambo V10 , that basic chassis and I was slightly underwhelmed by its noise and sense of occasion (And potential depreciation) then the Gallardo was the obvious choice. But as well as the badge, the noise the rather more spectacular shape, late Gallardos are available as 550hp 2WD cars with an R8 like open gate manual.
And they're cheaper in that, IMHO, superior spec.

I'll take up up on that, I keep thinking about one , then that gear box puts me right offwith cars like the AMG GT for £100k is hard to part with £100k for a lambo with egear and 10 year old design.

no, though the r8 shares the direct injection engine of the lp, it is detuned to under 520hp, any post 06 Gallardo is 520 hp, so power the same.... r8 is 100kg more in weight than the Gallardo.... so power to weight favours the Gallardo.... and re transmission, the bull has viscous diffs, don't think the r8's is....so quicker, unlikely.

Have you considered a McLaren or V12 Vantage ?
I had a Galardo and was not a fan. May be a post 2007 model would have met my expectations better.
Would love a 12c ..... Probably top of my want list but currently a bit out of reach, and secondly As posted before I just can't get my head around the current pricing set up, official cars at less than private sale and no apparent method to price either.I had a Galardo and was not a fan. 430 I can price, gallardo I am just doing my homework now :-)
