Hi,

Some might say stupidly, but in or around early 2016 I Sold my 1993 Mondial T coupe, finished in Blu Medio over Crema fitted with a larini Exhaust. At the time the registration was A11 CXD.

UK Gov sites say that the Tax and MOT ran out in late 2016/early 2017, and SORNed since.

At the time of selling I was worried about the cost of ownership, so rather than do it on the cheap I sold it on and purchased a more modern Morgan Aero 8 and lately a TVR Chimaera 5L......but I miss the Mondial. Today having removed and rebuilt engines and fixed bodywork and electrical issues, ownership no longer looks as costly and daunting, so I am trying to find the car.

I did track it to an auction in 2016 where it did not sell, the Auction company is trying to make contact on my behalf as well, but understandably they are not about to give me any personal details, hence the post here to see if anyone knows and can put me in touch.

Cheers,

mark

I'm slightly puzzled that if you sold it in 2016 and it stopped being taxed in 2016 then there doesn't seem much time for a lot of owners in between. I also note that the DVLA vehicle enquiry shows the last V5 issue date as 17 October 2014 which should imply there hasn't been a change of keeper since then. Perhaps you mis-typed the year you sold it?

Anyway, I don't know where it is now. It was for sale with Hamilton Grays in Loughborough up to September 2016. Then, as you already know, failed to sell at H&H's auction at Duxford in October 2016.

I hope you find it, I bet you're not far away given that it seems it might be laying low somewhere.

Looking at the picture I find that shape very nice indeed, there are not really any design features that date the car as a late 80 vehicle.

It's funny b/c as a kid I remember the automotive critics absolutely panning the poor car but it shows how attitudes change.

Sincerely, best of luck! I'd love one of those in my driveway..

Yes, it looks like 2014 I sold it. It bounced through a few dealers quite quickly HG being the last.

I was going from memory as it has not had a service or been looked at since I did a service at Dovecoat cars in Northants.

That makes more sense. Can't you go forward from who you sold it to rather than trying to go backwards from where you can last find trace of it? The current owner is either the owner immediately after you or with one other in between. I believe it is in the Wolverhampton area.

I assume you sold it to a trader in 2016 and either did not correctly transfer the car to trade at the time of sale so it remained taxed. Alternatively the trader may have taxed it but not completed the change of keeper.

As mentioned the car then went to auction but unsold. As the date the car was officially untaxed is a couple of weeks after the auction it most likely sold after the sale by another means.

I would then expect it was then exported hence no change to the last issued V5 or further taxation / MOT records.

I sold it to a “one man band” trader similar to we buy any car. He placed it at Junction 17 in Peterborough. It was then seen in HG of Leicester at a much inflated price and finally at H&H auctions. I’ll write to these dealers as well.... you never know.
Why do you feel it is in Wolverhampton area?

That was where it was last MOTed and, at least in theory according to the DVLA record, it hasn't changed hands since.

How did you find that, as I can only see test number, not the centre number. Which was the garage/business that did it?

I keep track of all sorts of Ferrari-related information. I'm not sure I should post who did the MOT in a public forum but you can PM me if you really want to know. However, I can't see how it will be of any help to you.

I'm surprised the DVLA doesn't offer some kind of service whereby, for a fee, they'll write to a vehicle's owner to tell them someone is interested. That would maintain the owner's anonymity, bag the DVLA some money and, potentially, give the interested party an opportunity to acquire the vehicle they want.

Had 4 Mondials but after 308's didn't really bond with them but needed a 2+2 when the kids were small ,

Being a short ass and with the Mondial having very low

floors i could never could see over the steering wheel. ,

Didn't have that trouble with the GT4's,

Not cool getting out of your Ferrari with your cushion

The last one i owned was the face lift 3.2 in Azzurro blue,

Have to admit it was the only one i quite enjoyed driving ,very underrated then.

Seems more love for them now than when they were new.

Alas no. I've contacted all the last known contacts with the car and other than the last Auction house all have ignored me. I'll try again, but I do feel a bit like a pest. The Auction house said they emailed their last owner my details but nothing has come of it.
I even resorted to Google street view and maps around the last MOT place as it seemed an odd garage to choose (not a Ferrari specialist or even specialist) so assume close to home or possibly work for the owner.

DVLA will not give me details as I do not have a competing reason to get in touch with the owners

Just a long shot but have you tried the Ferrari Owners Club, If the current owner is a member you could leave your

details with them , They maybe more helpful than DVLA.

What do you class as a short ass? I'm 5'7" and felt a little too low in a 308GTB, but was fine in a Testarossa. I also drove a 360 with the carbon seats and was fine in that too.

Well I am 5'2" at a stretch 5'3" and could see out OK. With my wife a similar size we made the Mondial a true 4 seater for the 2 kids quite comfortably. Nice bonus.

I'll give the FOC a call, I know one of the committee members quite well.

markcoopers MitchT--------------------- I.m 5ft 5" on a good day so somewhere between the pair of you,

I think having the high roofline combined the the low driving position always exaggerated this for me,

I felt i could wear a top hat in them which i purpose isn't bad thing giving that they are a 2+2,

Having previously had 308 GTB's, GTS's and GT4's which are far more compact inside the Mondial was

like a big glass bubble, After that i went on to 365 GT4's which although a larger car felt more compact inside

think it was the wide centre console that runs though the middle, Felt more at home in them for some reason, maybe

i just like the older cars but after owning 4 Mondials they couldn't have been that bad.
