While reading Nathan Beehl’s incredibly detailed book on the 550 and 575, there is a section on the Ferrari 550 Carrozeria Scaglietti Michael Schumacher Edition.

However absolutely nobody seems to have an idea how many of there cars there are.

On PistonHeads there was a great piece of information showing how way before the WSR car - Michael asked for a bespoke 550. Customers using the official Ferrari brochure could purchase the same car as Michaels.

However (and I’ve never seen Michael’s) I’ve only heard of 2. One in Sweden and one in the UK.

If any experts out there have any additional info it would be amazing to hear ?

Ferrari in Sweden apparently say 6 cars. However I don’t know where they got that number from.

Cheers R

Apparently Michael didn’t have the split rims on his early 550 Edition bespoke car but did on a later 575. But nobody knows for sure. (Unless you know different)

Ps. I’ve seen a few 550’s with 575 carbon parts added and a few without the racing harness.

However I believe the Schumacher Edition cars are all very early number cars.

The 2 above have very close chassis numbers and may have been made on the same day/week.

The Carrozzeria Scaglietti program was available to other models too.

As it was a bespoke service there will be no truly accurate figures as to how many of each model will exist. Some owners may well have chosen to not even have it mentioned.

Ferrari at their finest in model manipulation (but the options were pretty much limitless. All, as per Ferrari, dependent on how deep your pockets were.

Aha.

Makes sense.

The Swedish car was owned by the head of Sweden’s National Carting Team .... that very, very sadly all died in a plane crash on the way to a race with his son.

The other car was ordered by one of Ferrari’s biggest clients.

I guess we’ll never know - although I hope there are a few more out there.

It was apparently the kick-start of the idea for Ferrari a few years later to make the 33 ? WSR cars.

And you’re right.....

I guess at the time you’d need very deep pockets ....... (and possibly friends in high places) ....... as one of the early owners I spoke to said he was only offered options of leather colour - stitching - luggage etc.

But not the Scaglietti catalogue options.

Thanks for the info.

Cheers R

I looked at a dark red car with the seats and carbon interior parts for sale in Germany in 2014 - was a one owner car with 250k km on the clock and supposedly ordered for Willi Weber (I think that’s his name anyway, Schumacher’s manager) originally. Dont think it had the roll bar
Cost a little more than 30k euros at the time

Wow.

I love to see that cars are used.

250k km !

Thats great for a 20 plus year old car.

Must have been worth over 30k Euros in parts ?

Was at the Time when you couldn’t pick up a 50-60k km car for less than 50k euros though.
I was tempted by it, but everybody I spoke to said too risky / engine and gearbox rebuild costs etc
Am planning to eventually hit the same mileage in my FF - still a long way off though

That’s great to hear.

My F355 #104026 has spent its life on the road and race track.

Has done 70k miles starts first time and runs perfectly.

Winning the Ferrari Pirelli Hillclimb Championships 3 times (2011, 2013 and 2014).

Breaks my heart to see cars 25 years old with 2k miles.

Ha ha ha.

And the original thread heading was about my “Michael Schumacher Edition 550 Maranello”.

However I was at the maximum number of letters so I cut the “u” from Schumacher and missed out the word “Edition” completely.

Looks like my spelling is terrible.

But who cares.

I can add to the ‘F1 driver specified’ 550 with my car

It was ordered by British F1 driver Peter Gethin for his personal use. It’s a Dec 2001 delivery and he clearly picked from the WSR parts bin - it has Fiorano handling pack, leather clad roll bar, fire extinguisher, coloured steering wheel and Scuderia shields. Only thing it is really missing are the race seats / harnesses

On the plus side, it’s a 1 of 1 F1 specifies car!

Hi there.

I’d love to see a picture.

Can you post one ?

Cheers Ralph

Ps By chance Peter Gethin taught me to drive at Goodwood in the early 90’s ??? I still have all my old certificates.

Also

Does it have the carbon sills, centre consul, f50 heat knob, instrument dash.

I’d love to see it.

They ran a whole page on the
Ferrari 550 Maranello Carrozzeria Scaglietti With Michael Schumacher Options in the Ferrari magazine this month.

But still only 3 confirmed.

Ferrari’s own model used on the Ferrari stands in 1998 at Frankfurt, london be New York .... is silver but nobody knows where it is. (Strange - not even Ferrari are saying).

Ferrari did say there are no RHD’s.

The mystery continues.

Here's a picture of the 'Gethin' 550 - sadly don't have an interior shot to hand but here's a copy of the spec sheet:

Assuming its the interior you are keen to see, I'm afraid the car is under wraps at the moment

Will try to dig it out later this month and post something
