F40 fuel cells price jump
Discussion
I bought a Euro spec F40 two years ago with fuel cells that were eight years old. Decided to wait to replace them at ten years old and just been quoted £29,000 for the cells, ex fitting. Price seems to have doubled in two years. Now considering alu tanks. Anyone else got experience or more background with this?
Definitely shop around but ensure you use a technician who knows what they're doing, and ask for the manufacturer of the said tanks.
When I bought my F40 back in 2011, the car was advertised with ''new tanks''. Indeed they were but they were ***t. Both the quality of the tanks and the installation. The car stank of fuel and I was driving around in a bomb.
I went for ATL made tanks, superb product. See pics below. Before and ATL. The cost was around a third of what you're stating.

Maybe too late for the OP but FWIW last year Willans made us some custom FIA rated bags, including internal fuel pumps and all fittings and seals and got Dockings to make some more substantial holding tanks than the Ferrari frames. Really, really nice work as far as I can tell and all in cost less than just some ATL cells alone.

That quote seems very high. ATL tanks are quality product. Last time they needed changing I had aluminium tanks put in. This was a several years ago and have had no problems.Scrimper said:

Makes sense. Bags are probably overkill for a road car. General consensus seems to be to stick with bags if you track it though.bermy boy said:

Hmmm, I wonder if such an OEM price hike is a Classiche Certification trick. Do ATL's qualify ?del mar said:

How much can it cost to make an Aluminium box ?
Not much, but Euro F40 tanks are Kevlar bags...Edited by anonymous-user on Sunday 20th May 17:32

True that originality is important but I consider these parts as consumables and therefor not as relevant as say originality of carbon panels. In any case the cost of installing new bag tanks would be the same as replacing original bag tanks so don’t see much relevance in terms of value. In any case I never plan to sell mine and do not track it so minimising running costs seems sensible.
Unfortunately this is a dilemma I will never have ......
